After we are trapped in the house all winter and in the dark, spring makes us want to freshen up our rooms. When everything has a home, things are easier to find and cleaning is less complicated. It's a win-win situation in our book! Here are some easy ways to prepare your home.
Create a delivery point!
Put a large basket on wheels (like a basket) that kids can put items in when they're done with them. Clutter is much easier to deal with this way, and cleanliness is included.
Define zones ... like in a pantry.
Group items and contain them by category. We like to use clear, stackable bins for small to medium-sized items, large floor baskets for bulky items, and split turntables for art supplies.
Don't be too specific with your categories ... otherwise it's impossible to maintain.
For example, it's okay to put Barbies and Shopkins together. Or the Duplos with the Legos. All that really matters is that the items end up in a trash can at the end of the day.
Label everything!
This includes sorting items by color. We love the ROYGBIV (Rainbow Color Organization) method in a playroom. Not only is it beautiful, it's an easy-to-use system that makes cleaning more of a game!
NEVER ask a child whether they still like anything when they are washing items.
They will always say yes even if they have never touched it before. Follow your instincts.
