Face oils are non-negotiable in your skin care routine.

For most of my life, face oils have never really been on my radar. My skin care routine included cleansers, moisturizers, spot treatments, and an occasional mask. But rubbing oil on my face seemed like an unnecessary and tedious step. And he wasn't alone.

"Every skin care campaign in my youth has made oil the enemy," says Jenna Levine, founder of LINNÉ . "Each product contained oil and was formulated on the existing acne-prone skin sebum to remove."

Kelly Gold, the Rancharrah Club's spa and fitness manager and a qualified beautician, had the same dislike. "When I first got into the skin care business over 20 years ago, the words 'oil' and 'skin' used together in the same sentence made me wince."

Of course we have all learned the opposite. Face oils are like magic in a bottle. And after a crash course in facial oils (courtesy of experts like Levine and Gold), I can promise you this, no matter how dry , oily, or flawless your skin is, you will likely need them.

The hard part is deciding which one is right for you. But don't worry, I found 11 of the best face oils to begin with.

As the name suggests, a face oil is actually an oil designed for your face. He is a workaholic who is able to tackle all kinds of problems.

Facial oils can "contribute , moisture to save the lipid barrier restore the skin to regulate the production of sebum and provide the skin essential nutrients, including a concentration of fatty acids for restorers and regenerators," said Levine.

That is not everything. "Face oils can also provide a protective layer against everyday elements, lock in a serum, smooth lines and soothe the skin," says Gold. "Therapeutic facial oil can penetrate deeper into the skin and deliver its already natural infusion of properties such asomega fatty acids , polyphenols and antioxidants for instant results."

Anyone can use face oils. "They are ideal as a base for make-up and are ideal for caring for facial hair," adds Melissa Medvedich, certified aromatherapist and founder of Supernal .

All of this and the face oils feel amazing too . A few drops will quickly penetrate your skin, leaving you radiant and perfectly hydrated.

If, like me, you're worried about rubbing oil on your skin makes you bold, glowing, and rash- ready, don't be scared. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all of the face oils I tried were soaked. There was no dazzling shine, greasy residue, or suspicious breakouts for the next few days.

The key is to find a well-made oil that is right for your skin type . I have some tips for that.

"Not all oils are stored the same," says Gold. She advises looking for certified organic, raw, cold-pressed and fresh-pressed, unrefined facial oils.

"These steps provide you with the most nutritious benefits on your skin. Oils with a nice hue and a distinctively fresh earthy aroma are generally good indicators that they are pure and unrefined. ""

Commercially available oils that are refined or chemically modified do not have these properties. They also have a lot fewer antioxidants, enzymes, and nutrient fillers - all good things that are good for your skin.

"These essential ingredients are critical to skin health, including clarity, moisture, and environmental protection, which accelerates the skin's aging process, " says Gold.

In general, your skin type should influence your choice of oil. There are facial oils that are made from all types of ingredients and that are chosen for their specific benefits.

In general, lighter oils work best on oily skin, while dry skin benefits from rich, occlusive oils.

"Know your skin type," advises Levine. "If you're prone to imperfections, avoid comedogenic oils likewalnuts made fromcoconut , soybean, palm, and linseed oils. Dry skin can benefit from more occlusive oils. But oily and acne-prone skin should choose anti-inflammatory oils and regulators made from fat like hazelnut, jojoba and goatee . "

Levine says all skin types should avoid synthetic oils. These can create the illusion of nourished skin, but they don't really help the skin on a cellular level. He also suggests staying away from mineral oils.

Check the label to see what's included. Many companies highlight the benefits of the ingredients in their formulas and state the skin conditions they want to address.

"Look for the ingredients that are best for your skin and you will be in good shape," says Gold.

Remember that adding a clean facial oil to your daily skin care routine will benefit virtually all skin types, including acne-prone oily skin.

"It's a myth that oily skin should avoid oil," says Levine. "Good oils like jojoba and hazelnut can help regulate sebum production. The oils also help lock in moisture and moisturize and nourish the skin. ""

Levine also says that some people with acne may have less linoleic acid in the lipids on the surface of the skin. Adding oils high in omega-6 fatty acids like black seed can help.

Of course, adding something new to your skin care routine takes some care. "Facial oils can be a great addition for any skin type, but as with any new skin care product, it's always best to be careful and use a test patch," says Medvedich. "Adding a few drops of facial oil to your regular moisturizer is also a great way to experiment how to incorporate an oil into your regime."

As I walked down the rabbit hole with face oil, I began to wonder about the difference between oils and serums . Both appeared to be concentrated oily products packaged in similar glass bottles. Are they really different? Is one better than the other?

Indeed, there are similarities, but there is also an important difference.

"The oils supply the skin with nutrients and retain moisture. Serums are generally used to treat specific skin problems such as fine lines or hyperpigmentation and are generally lower in molecular weight, "explains Medvedich. "Still, I think there can be hybrids between a face oil and a serum."

Think of serums as a dietary supplement. "A serum shouldn't be used as a moisturizer," notes Gold. Rather, it is "an impulse to combat dull or dull skin , pigmentation, fine lines or wrinkles, or to protect against future damage".

When using facial oil and serum together, use the serum first. Then apply the facial oil to seal in the serum so you can get the most out of the ingredients.

Here are some face oils that I tried and loved.

Bain Culture Outer Being Face and Body Oil

Price: $ - $$$

I've been a long-time fan of Bad Culture body wash , hand sanitizer, and face mists , as well as his commitment to sustainably harvested ingredients.

In fact, I liked the bathroom culture so much that I took a leap of faith in its Outer Being Face and Body Oil.

It was my first experience with a real face oil and it didn't disappoint. Living oil contains a mixture of vitamins, essential fatty acids, amino acids and antioxidants. And it smells pleasantly earthy and natural.

I was reluctant to put it on my face the first time, it's so oily! It's bright orange! - but a few drops rub in gently and are effortlessly absorbed.

About a minute after using it, I looked damp and hydrated and stayed that way all day. Show off my newfound passion for face oils.

Supernatural cosmic glow oil

Price: $$$

Supernal Cosmic Glow Oil is a silky oil that is filled with Vitamin C and Omega 3, 6 and 9. The formula is hand mixed in small amounts and made from natural and organic ingredients.

The oil in my bottle is light green in color, but colors can vary from batch to batch due to the nature of the ingredients. It smells like it's literally harvested and pressed - fresh, earthy, and slightly grassy.

The oil is suitable for almost all skin types: normal, dry, oily or in combination.

My skin is turning to the dry end of the spectrum (and the high desert climate in my home state doesn't help). But every moisturizer I've used leaves me too shiny, even if I apply it sparingly.

However, Supernal Oil is a great moisturizer to use after cleansing when my skin is still slightly damp. It gives me the perfect wet finish without the glittery sheen.

Beekman 1802 Dream Booster Bakuchiol Beta-Retinol Serum

Price: $

I'm a huge fan of Beekman 1802 , a reputable supplier of clean goat milk skin care products .

I was especially excited to discover the brand's new booster serums. These are real serums with special benefits for the skin.

Dream Booster is a beta-retinol-bakuchiol serum. Bakuchiol is a herbal retinol alternative that can help smooth the texture of the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and minimize the appearance of pores.

It's also gentler than retinol , which can irritate sensitive skin .
I find the serum light and smooth with a sweet scent.

Beekman 1802 Golden Booster Amla Berry Serum with Vitamin C.

Price: $

The Golden Booster is loaded with vitamin C from the amla berry . Research 2013 suggests that amla can promote collagen synthesis and have a firming effect on the skin.

I really like this serum. It has a slightly thicker and more concentrated texture than a face oil and is a bright, sunny yellow.

The Dream Booster and the Golden Booster are designed for personalized skin care. By mixing a few drops of one of the serums with Beekman 1802 Bloom Cream Probiotic Moisturizer , you can create a custom skin care cocktail that is wonderfully absorbed to deeply nourish your skin's microbiome.

Dr. Brent Ridge, one of Beckman's founders in 1802, explains that the root of all skin problems lies in imbalances in the skin's microbiome. It is influenced by a number of internal and external stressors.

Because goat milk has a pH similar to that of our skin, it is naturally soft. This is why mixing Bloom Cream with booster serums or any other serum is so effective.

I find the perfect moisturizer for the serum before bed and enjoy my glowing complexion in the morning. It's an excellent option for anyone with highly sensitive skin.

LINNÉ BALANCE face oil

Price: $$

LINNÉ is a botanical skin care line that safely promotes healthy, radiant skin. I think it's great that their products are free from plastics, carcinogens, environmental toxins and fillers.

The brand stands for transparency. Its ingredients and the purpose of those ingredients are available to everyone.

LINNÉ BALANCE Face Oil is made from seeds and essential oils selected for their ability to control oil production, cleanse pores , promote cell regeneration and reduce inflammation.

The oil in my bottle is light in color and texture and is quickly and easily absorbed. It has a clean, green, grassy scent that I find surprisingly attractive - you feel incredibly powerful, vibrant, and fresh.

Just rub a little and your skin will be nourished instantly.

LINNÉ REPAIR facial oil

Price: $$$

LINNÉ REPAIR oil is bright orange in color and I panicked for a moment when she made my skin the same color for the first time. But when I was massaging it, something magical happened: the orange was completely gone and my skin was glowing.

It's a light oil that is easily absorbed but keeps me hydrated all day. It has an almost dry pink oil effect, but not greasy.

LINNÉ oils are organic, obtained from nature and not refined. Your care is reflected in the fragrance: It is a woody and spicy fragrance that makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my skin. And with the combination of powerful ingredients chosen for their ability to stimulate skin cell regeneration, minimize wrinkles, restore hydration and improve skin tone, I do just that.

Freck Beauty LIL PRICK dry serum with cactus seeds

Price: $$

This serum is representative of the Freck brand as a whole - certainly clean, but fat at the same time.

With its potent blend of cactus , apricot, marula and raspberry seed oils , this oil disguised as a serum gives thirsty skin an instant boost of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and antioxidants. The brand also claims to have firming, toning and toning properties.

It is described as a dry serum so I had expectations and the product lives up to the brand. Prickly pear oil means this serum is absorbed without leaving any grease or shine.

The oil leaves your skin soft, smooth and glowing. And while it's technically labeled as a serum rather than a face oil, I find it works wonders on its own.

Valuable elixir for the face Lepaar

Price: $$$

Credo is a huge market for clean beauty products from around the world. All brands on the website meet the Credo Clean Standard , which guarantees safety, delivery, ethics, sustainability and transparency standards . That's how I discovered Lepaar, an Australian luxury brand for "holistic" skin care that makes compositions from whole plant extracts.

The brand's Precious Facial Elixir is a nutrient-rich facial oil for all skin types: dry, mixed, blemish-prone and normal.

The ingredients list is impressive: Mix sea buckthorn oil , raspberry seed oil, papaya seed oil and saffron with frankincense , myrrh and 24 carat gold.

Lepaar describes the elixir as a nutrient-rich revitalizing oil. To be honest, that's an accurate description. My skin is smooth and silky and has a positive glow within seconds of application.

NakedPoppy Revitalize Organic Face Oil

Price: $$

Only six certified organic ingredients have a surprising effect on this cleansing facial oil for all skin types. The first ingredient is rose hip oil , which comes from a sustainable farm run by women in Patagonia. Rose hip oil is rich in vitamin A.

I really like this antioxidant-rich oil. It has an earthy, almost floral aroma and a lively orange tone. Immediately absorbed, it leaves behind the shine and incredibly smooth texture that I expect from a great face oil.

MARA Universal Facial Oil

Price: $$

MARA is another brand that I found on Credo, which means it is a clean beauty shop.

MARA Universal Face Oil really has something for everyone. Dry, sensitive, blemish-prone combination skin and normal skin benefit from this powerful and luxurious oil.

A mixture of kelp, antioxidants, phytonutrients , essential fatty acids and nutrient-rich superfood vegetable oils results in something special.

The green oil is smooth and rich, penetrates my skin and makes it soft and supple. I can't pinpoint the scent, but it's light, earthy and wonderfully fresh.

Laurel antioxidant serum

Price: $$$

Bay Leaf Antioxidant Serum has the consistency and texture of a face oil, but is technically a hybrid moisturizer, serum, and oil. It's packed with powerful ingredients - 31 fresh, strong oils and whole plant extracts - sourced from local artisan farms.

These oils and extracts are hand pressed and infused with essential oils for skin benefits like barrier aid, tissue repair, and more.

The brand claims that each ingredient plays an important role in lightening and restoring glowing skin, and a drop or two is enough to go a long way.

Laurel skin care products are a real strain from seed to bottle. This serum removes the silky texture, vibrant tone and fresh botanical scent. It gives that insightful shine and I have no issues with dryness or irritation.

A good facial oil is a must in any skin care routine. Oils are the secret to perfectly hydrated and glowing skin, who would say that ?! - and that's really just the beginning.

Time and again I have read reviews from people who were just as impressed as I was by their suddenly moist, hydrated and smooth skin, all because they made a leap in confidence in high-quality facial oil.

Yes, many face oils cost a lot. But a little goes a long way and you get what you pay for. A synthetic facial oil or an oil with inferior ingredients has no advantage. So if you can, go for the right things. I promise you will be very glad you did.

After adding a face oil to my nightly routine, I was impressed with how my skin looked when I woke up: glowing, smooth, smooth, and hydrated.

It turns out that "I woke up like this" is real when you use a great face oil.
