The bicarbonate of sodium , also known as sodium bicarbonate, is known for the gentle increase that cakes, breads and cookies can give. But baking soda can also help remove dirt, remove limescale deposits and freshen up smelly substances with ease.
Many of us spend most of our time in our homes, with foreclosure rules still in place.
This may have caused many of us to renovate, buy new furniture, or move in the past few months.
One surefire way to bring your home back to life is to thoroughly clean it.
There are some areas around our home that we may overlook when cleaning, which is why Express.co.uk has put together some easy cleaning methods below.

In the room
While we all know how to wash our sheets on a regular basis, it's often easy to forget about the mattress itself, which is often overlooked.
Jonathan Warren, director of bed specialist Time4Sleep, advises: "Regardless of the quality of your bed linen and mattress protector, it is very important that you also take care of the mattress in order to avoid unsanitary sleeping conditions and poor sleep quality.
"Take off your bedding and vacuum the surface of your mattress to remove any dirt or debris.
"For a really thorough clean, sprinkle baking soda on your mattress and let it sit for up to 24 hours before vacuuming again.
"This acts as a deodorant and helps remove stubborn odors."
Attack the limestone
Limescale can be unsightly and stain your bathtub, shower, sink or toilet.
While many of us choose to use descaling products on supermarket shelves, these products contain harsh chemicals that can have harmful effects on our skin and the planet.
Instead, you can quickly search your closets for a natural alternative.
Richard Roberts, Director of Sanctuary Bathroom, shared some of his best tips for making limestone cleaning more environmentally friendly.
He said, "Start by soaking an old cloth in lemon juice or vinegar and wrapping it around faucets covered with limestone for an hour.
"The file should be cleaned and the taps should be as good as new." Rub chrome faucets with flour and buff with a soft cloth for extra shine.
"For shower heads, simply unscrew and soak overnight in a bowl with white vinegar. Rinse off the next morning for brilliant results.
"Since it is no longer blocked, your shower becomes even more powerful!"
Dust off your blinds
While we frequently dust surfaces around our homes, blinds can be a neglected area that will build up a lot of dust over time.
Jason Peterkin, Director of 247 Blinds, recommends, "Ideally, you should clean your blinds once a month to remove germs and dust from the surface.
"If you have shutters or curtains, all you have to do is dust them gently and vacuum them once a month.
Venetian shutters or plantation shutters can be cleaned more thoroughly.
"Wipe each coverslip with a damp cloth and some liquid laundry detergent and finish with a quick powder to keep it looking new."
Wash your windows
Windows must be cleaned on both sides several times a year. Since we're leaving rain and snow behind, this is the best time to make them shine.
Adam Pawson, Safestyle Digital Manager, says, "First, open the window and grab an old paintbrush to remove any dirt, dust, and cobwebs that may be stuck in the frame.
"Then use your vacuum hose to remove the residue.
"Markings and stains should easily disappear on PVC window frames.
"Fill a bowl with warm water and washing-up liquid and clean it with a soft white cloth.
"Do not use a colored cloth as the dye can stain the plastic."
To clean your windows, you can make a mixture of white vinegar and water, put it in a spray bottle, and spray your windows.
Rub with a microfiber cloth and your windows will glow in no time.
Update your radiator
Radiators can be seen as a nuisance for cleaning.
Antonio Dengra, CEO of Rointe, reveals his simple solution: "Believe it or not, a simple and effective way to remove dust from the back of the cooler is to use a hair dryer.
"Point the nozzle at the slots above and turn it on at full power."
"If you currently have the tedious task of flushing your gas coolers during spring cleaning, you should switch to electric heat.
"Electric heaters are not only easier to maintain, they are also more efficient, greener and can lower the cost of your energy bills."
Beautify your garden furniture
With the afternoons getting longer and the sun shining, now is the perfect time to freshen up your yard and where better to start than with your patio furniture?
Ryan Schwarze, Director of Luxury Rattan, suggests, "First, remove dirt from your furniture. You can do this by simply brushing or vacuuming it quickly.
"If you find there is dirt in the rattan tie, use a toothbrush first to loosen it. Then you should be able to clean or vacuum it easily. "
"If your rattan may need more thorough cleaning, clean it thoroughly. However, avoid using harsh chemicals that can cause damage.
"For best results, fill a bowl of hot, soapy water with dish soap and clean your furniture before letting it dry outside."
