Carrboro, Chapel Hill, to say hello to clean up the creek with new pandemic guidelines

The towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill come together for the second time to encourage residents and businesses to help clean up urban waterways in cities.

Joint Creek's second annual cleanup, which begins March 13, will be a little different this year for public health reasons. Instead of leading organized groups, cities are encouraging families and groups to participate in smaller cleanup groups.

During last year's cleanup , participants collected a total of 5,280 pounds of trash. Cities expect residents to face the challenges of the pandemic and show themselves similar between March 13 and April 17.

To take part in the challenge, participants will need to read these "Stay Safe" tips , find a creek or trash area, take photos before and after cleaning, fill out the trash cleanup sheet in Survey123, and tag cities in photos posted on social networks were published.

Entrants who fill out the data sheet between March 13th and April 17th will have the opportunity to win prizes including reusable straws, cloth bags, water bottles and more.

Local governments say participants should dispose of the trash they collect in their personal bins. If more waste is collected than can fit in a person's personal trash can, participants will be encouraged to take the excess to one of the local recycling and waste centers .

You can find more information about the 2nd annual common stream cleanup here . Local governments say additional questions can be directed to Sammy Bauer or Heather Holley .
