Ms. Hinch's cleaning fans share a helpful trick to combating condensation and dampness

As the colder months roll in, many households are wondering how to deal with condensation on their windows.

This can happen when humid outside air interacts with the cold surface of windows, creating smaller water droplets. Owners and tenants ventilate less often due to the drop in outside temperature.

Unfortunately, this leads to a lack of ventilation, making window areas ideal for condensation and moisture. This can lead to a number of health problems.

But online cleaning gurus have shared some handy tips on how to get rid of wet windows in the house. What kept coming up was the use of salt to fix the problem, the Daily Record reports.

The method was discussed in a Facebook group run by Ms Hinch after she asked someone for advice on her condensation problem. They posted : "Guys, do you have any recommendations for keeping condensation and humidity at bay this time of year? Especially on and above windows."

Some users have suggested using a dehumidifier or staying alert by removing the condensation that occurs each morning. But the best, and probably cheapest, was to use the leftover salt that was in the kitchen cupboards.

Putting salt on a plate and placing it in front of the windowsill was a common solution, with one person saying, "Salt works wonders."

Another nods, "Put a bowl of salt outside, it'll soak up the moisture," while a third says, "Salt in a bowl on the windowsill, cheap and it works."

It seemed like some people were having this condensation issue, and one Hinch fan was quick to praise the salt spike in her own post.

She said: "Thank you to whoever said to put a bowl of salt on the windowsill for condensation. I was surprised. It really works. No more window cleaning in the morning."

In this post, hundreds of passionate cleaners tagged their friends and family, and even more people agreed that this simple tip has worked wonders for them.

"Yes it works. I no longer have a problem with condensation," said one of Ms. Hinch's fans.
