Quick cleaning tips for Diwali
Cleaning houses can be really therapeutic.
Cleaning houses can be really therapeutic. Plus, it fills our homes with much-needed positivity and peace. Although regular cleaning is a necessary aspect of life, it's best to get your home ready for the holidays before the holiday season.
People clean their houses thoroughly because Diwali is coming soon. Most households clean all nooks and crannies, including furniture, mattresses, walls, ceilings, kitchen countertops, and cabinets, as part of their holiday preparations.
People use traditional cleaning techniques like dusting or sweeping, which stir up dust but don't remove it from the home. Dust is a complex mixture of elements that includes dust mites, dust mite feces, bacteria, microscopic insects, and other particles. Therefore, it is crucial to vacuum all surfaces thoroughly and get into often-overlooked crevices to create a cleaner, healthier living environment.
According to the Dyson Global Dust Study 2022, Indians believe vacuums are the most effective at removing dust from the home, but only 39% of Indians actually use a vacuum to clean their home, compared to 65% who use a wet mop . 67% dry cloth, 70% brush and pan, and several others who regularly use more conventional cleaning techniques.
So here's a 5-day cleaning tip from Dyson on how to clean room by room to help you give your entire home a deep, stress-free clean this Diwali.
day 1
• The main reason for cleaning the living room and giving special attention to it before Diwali is to prepare the room for the guests who will come to celebrate the festival.
• Allow time to clean up. Ceilings and high-mounted devices such as ceiling fans, chandeliers or air conditioners are some of the dustiest places due to the cumbersome nature of cleaning.
• Remove everything hanging on your walls (picture frames, clocks) and vacuum the dust that has accumulated on the walls.
• Dust walls with an advanced filter vacuum to ensure the dust you remove is trapped in the bin and not blown inside. Dust on certain wall types can also contribute to mold growth.
• Don't forget the curtains and blinds. Use the combi tool to vacuum the dust before washing the curtains at 60-90 degrees Celsius to kill germs and bacteria.
day 2
• On the second day, start with furniture such as sofa, TV cabinet, cupboards, dining table, chairs, etc.
• Use the Dyson Hair screw tool to vacuum your furniture to remove hair and other dust. Don't forget to use the Dyson crevice vacuum to vacuum around the cracks in fixed furniture (shelves, TVs) or even the cracks in the sofa.
• Carpets can hide dust and dirt in their fibers and are home to microscopic creatures that can affect your well-being. Vacuum to reduce mite numbers and remove their food source. The Dyson cordless vacuum's Digital Motorbar cleaning head features stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets to remove stubborn dirt and anti-static carbon fiber bristles that eliminate static attraction between fine dust and floors.
• Use the tool under the Dyson Reach to continue cleaning under furniture. The tool bends conveniently to reach the ground and can be tilted up to 90 degrees.
day 3
• Treat the rooms and their textile furnishings in one day. This includes mattresses, sofas and pet beds.
• Vacuum both sides of your mattress to remove dust mites and dander with the hair screw tool. Remember to wash all removable covers (sheets, pillowcases) at 60-90 degrees Celsius to kill germs and bacteria.
• If the underside of your iron is covered in brown spots, once cool, cut a lemon in half and rub the juice over the spots. Then wipe them with a cloth to remove them and prevent brown stains from staining your clothes.
• When your pet meticulously licks their fur to clean and groom themselves, they are actually transferring allergens from their saliva into your home.
• For in-room pet beds, use the Dyson Hair Screw Tool to remove pet hair and microscopic allergens from a dog bed that you can't wash. . For those that can be washed, remove the blankets or pillows and wash them at 60-90 degrees.
day 4
• Day 4 is reserved for cooking! Wipe down kitchen countertops and cabinets for a deep clean. Vacuum above and below appliances like your refrigerator, scrub your sink, and wipe down all kitchen appliances and stoves to remove buildup. Then make sure all surfaces are dry.
• If you have a cauldron with lime, cover the item with a squirt of white vinegar, bring to the boil and leave overnight. Remember to let everyone in your house know so there are no surprises when they make that morning cup of coffee.
day 5
• Clean your bathroom well, not just the toilet bowl and sink.
• The grout on your bathroom tiles can turn an unsightly orange color due to mold and mildew growth in moisture. Make a paste of baking soda and water and rub it into the grout with an old toothbrush to restore its original color. Keep trying to ventilate your bathroom to reduce mold growth.
And done! Enjoy a cup of tea and dust and vacuum the floors regularly for your Diwali parties.
Some quick cleaning tips to keep in mind throughout the cleaning process:
