Cases of fallen branches or trees on power lines have increased this year
October 8, 2022 - OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fall is here! It's Veterans Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving season. Many people also think about cleaning theirs meters before the weather changes to make way for Christmas decorations by cutting bushes and removing dead trees. BEFORE WORKING NEAR POWER LINES:
- Call PG&E to request a security assessment of the area. PG&E will ensure that it is safe to fell a tree in this area, either by disabling the line or in a situation where PG&E engages its contractor to carry out the work.
- It is illegal to work within 10 feet of a transmission or distribution line without calling the utility company.
- If a tree or branch makes contact with the power line, stay away and call 911 immediately, then call PG&E. Don't try to remove the tree or branch from the line.
PG&E meets all applicable federal and state vegetation clearance requirements by regularly cutting and removing approximately 100,000 miles of power lines. This includes annual inspection and monitoring of each PG&E power transmission and distribution overhead line, with some sites being patrolled multiple times.
