Nine cleaning tips for removing hair from carpets and upholstery

Anyone who has pets knows that the only downside to its luxurious cuteness is cleaning up when they lose.

Even people who lose their hair will know how annoying it is to vacuum the carpets over and over again without messing up their hair.

Especially if you don't have a modern vacuum cleaner, it's like you're fighting a losing battle.

Fortunately, there are many ways to loosen your carpets and they use items you already have or that you can buy at the grocery store for less money.

These are our top tips.

Lint rollers

These are the favorites of the clean influencer Linsey Queen of Clean, who uses a gel-based roller to pick up hair from stairs .

Any lint roller will work, but gel rollers are helpful because you can rinse them off and not have to worry about sticky paper. Getting one with a telescopic handle is also an idea for those who can't bend down to clean.

Scotch tape

Wrap the hand with duct tape (sticky side out) (without the thumb). Then run your hand over the rug or sofa and watch the hair roll away from the fibers.

It's easiest in small areas that may be covered with hair. It would take a while to complete a whole room.

Raclettes

The material in window cleaners means they hold water, hair and fluff very well.

If it's good enough for Ms. Hinch, it's good enough for us. Any old squeegee will do, just run it over the smooth surfaces and throw away the accumulated pile of hair.

Shoes

You can't use old shoes for this, but if you have completely clean rubber-soled shoes or slippers that have only been used indoors, they may work.

Clean the rubber part of the shoe on the mat just like you would use the squeegee and it should pick up any loose flakes.

Plasticizers

Fabric softener is great for lifting hair off carpets as it prevents hair from clinging too tightly to the wool.

In a spray bottle, mix about a quarter of the fabric softener cap and the rest of the bottle with water. Spray on your carpet and let it dry before vacuuming.

A word of warning: fabric softeners can reduce the fire resistance of some fabrics. Therefore, do not use it on substances that have this on the label and still use it in small quantities.

Care gloves

Grooming gloves can be tagged for your pets' bodies, but they do the exact same job on your couches, carpets, chairs, whatever.

Imagine arranging the carpet so that the hair is gathered on these little ridges. Rubber cup gloves aren't as good as these, but they work if you don't have wipes.

Sponges

There's nothing like a good old-fashioned elbow to clean. A simple wet or dry sponge (try both depending on the fabric) will pull the hair in and give it that warm, fuzzy feel that only comes from a clean house.

Make sure to vacuum first so that you only pick up the hair and not any other parts that may be embedded in the fibers.

Sodium bicarbonate

Baking soda is pretty much the ultimate household cleaner. It also removes hair from the pads, absorbs oil in the hair, and makes hair absorption easier.

Scatter a little around your carpets ( add essential oils like this lady did ), let it sit for a while, and then vacuum.

As a bonus, it will also absorb animal odors from your carpets.

Carpet rake

Despite their fancy names , they're essentially squeegee brooms that can be bought online or at a hardware store .

It's what the barbers wear on their floors so you know you are getting the right deal here. As with the squeegee, the hair will stick to the squeegee, but this time there is no need to bend down.

Try any of these methods on your carpet even if you think they are already clean and you will be amazed at how much hair you can find.
