cutting boards

We're not talking about washing your cutting board after use, we hope you don't forget to do that.

What we mean here are those stains and dirt that seem to stick to your boards and make them look so bad you want to throw them away.

Well, save some money and put away your cutting boards because you can make them look new again with a deep cleaning, which Birges suggests every three months.

To clean a wooden board, he recommends sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda onto the surface, then squeezing the juice of half a lemon over it.

"With the remaining lemon, rub it in small circular motions," he explains.

"The baking soda will help remove any stains or odors on the board and the lemon acts as a natural disinfectant."

Finally, use a warm, damp towel to clean.

For the soiled plastic board, follow the same method as above for the wooden cutting board, but instead of cleaning it with baking soda and lemon juice, let sit for 10 minutes.

Then take the board to the sink, pour white vinegar over it, scrub with steel wool or a scouring pad, and then rinse.

wooden spoon

This is another item that you've probably washed after use but haven't really given a thought to the grease and dirt that accumulates over the years.

Once again, the process is quite simple.

"All you have to do is boil some water, fill a cup and leave your wooden spoon in it for a few minutes. You'll see all the dirt and stains go away," says Birges. .

After soaking, use a scouring pad to scrub the spoon off of this layer of slime and your spoon will be fresh and clean again.

tin opener

Well, it's definitely one that doesn't even get rinsed or wiped down after you get your hands on it, so it's time for a thorough cleaning.

"I have a great cleaning solution and all you need is baking soda. Sprinkle it on some steel wool and rub it in really well, it gets really shiny," says Birges.

After scrubbing, rinse the can opener and you're done.
