Martin Lewis shares tips on how to dry clothes without high dryer costs - Hull Live

Martin Lewis is back to the rescue, sharing his and other tips for reducing the drying time of clothes in winter.

TV's money-saving expert returned to our screens on Tuesday night with his special episode of Money Saving Live on ITV. Most of the show was devoted to sharing tips that can save you pennies on household expenses.

Despite some government intervention, energy bills are now nearly double what they were this time last year, while mortgage rates, food and fuel prices are also soaring. Projected inflation has hit 14.7% this month , meaning that buying groceries will cost the average Brit an extra £682 a year.

Before the show, Martin asked fans on Twitter for their top energy-saving tips. Flooded with replies, the presenter shared some of them on TV.

Deanne said, "After washing, I always spin my clothes extra to get more water out of the clothes so they dry faster," to which Dashie replied, "I love this one, my grandma taught me . Very handy when you have clothes ready for a young girl to try on, cuts drying time by about six hours."

Adrian said: "Hang your clothes outside if winter weather permits. It may only be 80% dry, but that means 80% less energy in the dryer." Tenerife7722 said, "Get a clothesline. I haven't turned on my tumble dryer since 2021.

"It's about organizing in advance, having uniforms etc washed and dried when you need them. It's just a little planning. The residual air temperature in the house dries the clothes faster than expected."

It seems that tipping could save people a small fortune. On the show, the Money Saving Expert founder explained that clothes dryers are "the biggest energy consumer in our homes."
