Why are these clean room videos so popular?
With all the upheavals of the last few years, we have experienced many things that were beyond our control. One of the areas that we had total power over was our home environment, in which we all happen to be spending more time than ever before. It's easy to see the appeal of a video where all issues are resolved in seconds and we predictably transition from chaos to comfort. Although the outside world can be complicated, at least we can see someone creating a little haven of peace in their home, and perhaps emulating it themselves.
Carissa Byrne Hebert, Founder and Chief Designer of CBH Interiors, agrees that the universality of these videos is a big part of their broad appeal. "I think these videos are popular because everyone wants a clean, organized space," she says. "An organized space gives you the confidence that your life can also be organized. There's also something nice about watching someone else clean: It's therapeutic and relaxing. It gives people hope for their own space when they see the chaos before and the cleanliness afterwards.
Perkins on Parkway 's Krystle Perkins witnessed the inspirational aspect of these videos firsthand as she hosted a fresh start for her family on Friday . She combines her weekly deep cleansing with self-care and shares it on her TikTok, where her followers have responded enthusiastically and many have been inspired to make their own positive changes, she says.
"People say things to me like, 'That got me off the couch,' or 'That was so uplifting,' which is incredible," says Perkins.
How to implement cleanroom aesthetics in your own home
Whatever your design sense, a clean and tidy home is a universal goal. As well as inspiration, cleanroom videos can offer many practical tips to help you keep your home looking and looking its best.
Many creators report that using video forces them to get the job done. When your room needs a deep cleaning and you don't want to check in, it can feel like someone is counting on you to end up setting a timer and cleaning until you're done. The positive feeling you get when you step back and see how much you've accomplished will encourage you to keep going until the job is done.
Once you've got things in order, it's important to have a structure that will help keep it that way.
"Every day when you get up in the morning, make your bed and tidy your room before you go out," says Hebert. "Then do a deep cleaning of your space once a week; Wipe down all surfaces, put away all loose items, and clear away all visible outside items and items hidden in drawers and behind doors. These simple habits will help you keep your bedroom tidy and clean.
You can also take inspiration from the Perkins family and reserve a fixed day of the week for a more thorough cleaning. Put it on your calendar the same way you would a meeting to make sure you keep your routine clean.
For the design side of the chic aesthetic, take inspiration from hotel rooms. These minimalist and clean interiors offer an ideal stress-free place to relax and sleep. You can replicate this feeling in your home by focusing on preserving as many surfaces as possible, using drawer organizers and closet systems so everything has a specific place. It can be difficult to keep everything tidy when you're busy, so Hebert recommends having a storage container or basket to keep things in check until you have time to put them away.
For items you want to keep track of, consider investing in matching bins for a clean look. You can display attractive objects like perfume bottles in vignettes alongside decorative objects like vases to make them look wanted. For small spaces that need an organized home, don't underestimate the power of some pretty trays. You can take your everyday items and make them look like a collectible. Who knows ?
