These hacks can make your sofa look like new.
As we embrace colder weather, many of us will be spending more time with our pets who have curled up on the couch to avoid winter bites.
However, if you have a pet, the extra time on the couch can quickly cover your furniture with unwanted hair .
To help people in this situation, Ray Jones, sofa expert at furniture retailer ScS , shared some tips on how to get rid of hair quickly and easily.
He explains: "Removing pet hair from sofas can be an awkward task, but with the right knowledge, it's quick and easy. If you want to completely avoid hair on your sofa, it is best to cover your pet's favorite spots with a blanket as a preventative measure. This way, all you have to do is wrap and wash the blanket to remove unwanted hair.
But if you have a furry sofa situation, here are your cleaning tips for cleaning your furry sofa.
vacuum
When cleaning carpets or furniture, use a vacuum specifically designed to pick up pet hair and work in multiple directions to loosen stubborn hair. Don't forget to remove the cushions from the base, armrests and sides to give your sofa the cleaning it needs to remove the leather.
Rub it with a rubber glove.
Put on a rubber glove, lightly dampen it with water, and then rub it over the surface of your sofa. It might not be as thorough as a vacuum, but you'll be surprised at how much hair you pick up.
It also works with a squeegee or just a damp sponge, just make sure you rub in different directions to pick up all the hair. Just be careful not to use too much water as this will result in the sofa getting soaked and it may take a while to dry leaving water stains.
Clean it with dryer sheets
Placing a dryer sheet over your couch can help trap pet hair, thanks to the sheets' anti-static properties.
The beauty of this trick is that not only will you remove hair and dust build-up, you'll also leave a lightly scented trail to make your sofa feel fresher.
Go over it with a lint roller
Lint rollers are especially helpful when it comes to removing unwanted pet hair.
Run it across your sofa and pull out any clogged sections of hair just like you would your clothes. Lint rollers tend to be more effective at removing hair from large areas (eg.
your seat cushions and the backrest of your sofa) due to its bulky design.
If you don't have a lint roller handy, you can use masking tape for a similar effect. We recommend using masking tape or tape for maximum effectiveness. However, be careful not to be too aggressive and risk damaging the fabric of the sofa.
Put on an athletic sock
By slightly dampening an athletic sock, turning it inside out, and then placing it on your hand, you can remove pet hair from unwanted surfaces.
Athletic socks work better than regular socks because they are thicker. Take it easy in the water again; You don't want to end up with a soaked sofa!
