Glass windows , mirrors, and shower doors can be difficult to clean , as stains and stains quickly reappear. While there are many products on the market specifically designed to clean glass surfaces, Kate Jones , a green home and lifestyle influencer, has a homemade solution that she says makes glass "shiny."
Kate is the driving force behind My Plastic Free Home on Instagram and TikTok ( @my_plastic_free_home ) and co-founder of The Natural Living Shop ( @thenaturallivingshop ).
Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: "You won't believe the secret ingredient in my homemade glass cleaner that will get your shower doors, windows and mirrors sparkling clean and streak-free in no time. It's cornmeal."
Though you might be more used to using cornmeal in cooking and baking, Kate also recommends adding the natural thickener to cleaning solutions.
This is due to the texture of the cornmeal. Because cornstarch granules are naturally abrasive, they can remove dirt build-up without leaving scratches.

Kate explained: "Add 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/4 cup vinegar , 2 cups water and 1 tablespoon cornmeal. It makes cleaning so much easier and your glass and mirrors won't streak." and it will shine.
Using isopropyl alcohol to clean windows and other glass surfaces will help achieve a streak-free finish because the cleaning solution will evaporate quickly, leaving a streak-free finish on the glass. However, the alcohol needs to be combined with other ingredients for it to work best.
Vinegar is a non-toxic option that makes a great alternative to store-bought glass cleaner.
Because of its acidic composition, vinegar is good at breaking down the thin film that forms on glass surfaces. It can sometimes be cleaned with baking soda for cleaning, although cornmeal is substituted in Kate's cleaning solution.
The solution can be poured into a spray bottle or you can simply dip a cloth into the mixture and wipe directly onto the glass.

How to clean windows and glass with natural products
If you don't have cornmeal on hand, there are several alternative methods for cleaning windows and glass surfaces.
White vinegar and baking soda are often touted for their ability to achieve a streak-free shine. First, wet your glass with the shower head or spray yourself with a bucket of water.
Next, fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and completely soak the glass.
Depending on how dirty the glass is, you may need to let the vinegar sit for up to 10 minutes.
Alternatively, the experts at Clean Heart Maids say lemon juice can be used in place of vinegar. Like the acetic acid in vinegar, the high concentration of citric acid in lemon juice can remove soap scum, limescale, and other deposits that can build up on glass.
Simply combine two tablespoons of lemon juice and a cup of hot water to make your own cleanser.
For an extra touch, dip a sponge in baking soda and rub the glass. Just like cornmeal, baking soda acts as a mild abrasive to remove any stains.
If you are happy with the results, rinse again with fresh water and use a microfiber cloth to buff the surface.
Using a squeegee to work from the top of the window or glass can also be helpful to ensure no smudges or marks are left on the surface.
