The housekeeper stays with Fox on call.
The network has renewed its drama series for a third season. Produced by Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, the series van arrives seven weeks after The Cleaning Lady wrapped its 12-episode second season.
Season 3 will also bring a new co-showrunner for The Cleaning Lady . Jeannine Renshaw ( In the Dark, Good Girls ) has joined the series and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Miranda Kwok, who developed the show. Renshaw replaces Melissa Carter, who is leaving the company to focus on development as part of her overall contract with Warner Bros.
"After two exciting seasons, we are delighted at how audiences have become hooked on this incredible story," Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement. "The cast, led by the incomparable Élodie Yung, along with our brilliant creative team and partners at Warner Bros. Television, have expertly crafted a deeply compelling and emotional show that offers a perspective not often seen on television."
Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, added, " The Handmaid is a compelling and masterful tale of a mother who would do anything for her son. I'm happy that we can continue to explore Thony's world in a third season. Thank you to our partners at Fox for providing a platform for this show to thrive, to Miranda Kwok for developing such a powerful story, and to Melissa Carter for her leadership throughout the first two seasons. We are very excited to have Jeannine Renshaw join the creative team and I can't wait for audiences to see what Miranda and Jeannine have in store for Season 3.
The timely extension of "The cleaning lady" could also serve as a bulwark against a possible strike by authors, actors or directors in the coming months. The current Writers Guild contract expires on May 1; Directors Guild and SAG-AFTRA's contracts expire at the end of June. A work stoppage by one of the unions could delay production of fall series, but those that were renewed early could potentially have scripts written and a handful of episodes shelved ahead of possible strikes, giving broadcasters at least a handful of scripted shows in 2023-24 when the season kicks off September.
Ratings for The Cleaning Lady sent chills into season two: the drama averaged 3.52 million viewers per episode a week behind schedule, according to Nielsen (these numbers don't include streaming), up from 5.17 million in its first season . According to Fox, the show's cross-platform viewership for its second season was 5.4 million viewers, a 53% increase over Nielsen's seven-day tally.
Yung plays a Cambodian-Filipino surgeon in the series who travels to the United States to seek state-of-the-art medical treatment for his son. Her visa has expired, she takes a job as a cleaner and finds herself involved in a criminal organization.
The cast also includes Adan Canto, Oliver Hudson, Martha Millan, Sebastien and Valentino LaSalle, Sean Lew, Faith Bryant, Eva De Dominici and Naveen Andrews.
The Maid is based on an Argentine drama. Kwok and Renshaw are executive producers along with Shay Mitchell, David Dean Portelli, Rose Marie Vega and Paola Suarez.
The series is Fox's first live-action script extension for the 2023-24 season. The animated mainstays Bob's Burgers, Family Guy , and The Simpsons will also return. Track all broadcast renewals and cancellations with The Hollywood Reporter Network Dashboard .
