WAUSAU, Wisconsin (WAOW) - The damage caused by the heavy storm on Wednesday in central Wisconsin caused a lot of work for forest service workers on Thursday.
"We ask for a lot of cleaning, so we were busy," said Jason Pollack, an employee of Todd's Tip Top Tree Service.
News 9 met on Thursday afternoon with the team of a cleaning company in Wausau.
"In strong winds it blew in the middle of the tree, so we had to go back and set up the truck and piece by piece separate from the rest and then slowly clean it," said Pollack.
He also mentioned that depending on the extent of the damage, each location could take up to two hours.
The extensive damage has also caused the first responders of the fire department Wausau many difficulties. The local authorities strongly advise you to be very careful during heavy storms.
"In the summer, when we have strong winds like at night, we cut many trees and branches into the power lines," said Jeremy Kopp, head of the fire department battalion of the Wausau fire department. "If a power line fails, pretend it's on, and try all power lines as if they're alive and stay away.
He also said it's important to call 911 as soon as you think a power line has failed.
"If it's home and causes smoke or fire, dial 911 and get out, if it's in your house and it does no harm, you can call WPS and they'll fix it."
Wausau has extended his farm hours with storm debris and yard rubble. Information on this can be found at http://www.ci.wausau.wi.us/.
