-----
Douglas Co.'s emergency management is calling for everyone to avoid areas that were damaged by heavy storms and tornadoes on Tuesday night to start assessing damage.
"We know he's worried and wants to help, but we're working to help his friends and neighbors, and we'll keep him up-to-date all day," the agency said on their Facebook page .
They discovered that no one had died in the Douglas Twister Co. Fifteen people were injured, three of them seriously. Janice Early, spokeswoman for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, reported 13 NEWS that some people suffered fractures and others were injured when their vehicles toppled during storms.
According to DCEM, Heart to Heart International will have its mobile medical department at Linwood Elementary School, 215 Park Street, Linwood, for everyone to seek medical help. They will also provide water, hygiene kits and masks.
By 10 am, crews had not visited all the tornado sites to clear the debris and restore electricity in these areas, the county said. DCEM has been partially blamed for its inability to reach blocking roads, and the county has announced that law enforcement authorities would need to tow vehicles if necessary.
You can find the last closed roads here.
THERE ARE NO VOLUNTEERS
At this point, the DCEM can not benefit from individual volunteers. The police and the workers gang are still trying to clean the debris safely. If volunteers are needed, the agency plans to publish this information on their Facebook page .
WATER SAFETY
DCEM reminds those who rely on well water to check their wells. If it was damaged by a tornado or was affected by the tide, do not drink it until it has been tested or electrocuted, they warn.
The agency also recommends boiling water for one minute before drinking and reminding everyone not to use contaminated water to drink or mix formulas, dishwashing, brushing or cleaning. the ice
pulse shots
The agency wants people to remember the last time they had a tetanus booster before brushing. If more than 10 years have passed, it is recommended to buy another one. It is also recommended for puncture injuries.
They explain that tetanus is a bacterial disease that produces a poison in the body. This poison can cause seizures, block the jaw, and interfere with breathing. The recovery could take months.
STORAGE FOR ANIMALS
The Red Cross Animal Shelter was set up at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Building 21 for People and Their Pets.
Pet owners looking for supplies (food, garbage, supplies, kennels) after the storm on Tuesday will find them in the Lawrence Human Society at 1805 E. 19th Street. The agency also accepts donations of household linen (blankets, sheets and towels only), mud sand, dog and cat food, Kong rubber toys and peanut butter.
