The North Chapter of the American Red Cross is ready to provide you with a cleaning kit after a flood if you need it.
Kits of mops, bleach, gloves, and other cleansers are available at North Hamilton Street, Watertown, Chapter 203 of the North American Red Cross.
Residents of St. Lawrence County can contact the Red Cross at (315) 782-4410 to arrange collection of cleaning kits at another nearby location.
If you need additional assistance due to flood damage, contact the Red Cross Emergency Services at (800) 831-0927.
The Red Cross also reminds residents about the safety of floods and urges all those affected by the floods to follow these tips:
- Avoid any contact with floods and never try to walk, swim or drive through flooded areas.
- Do not use flooded gas or electrical appliances until you have checked the safety.
- Remove all food that comes in contact with the flood.
- Listen to local radio, NOAA radio or TV channels for the latest news and updates.
- In the event of an evacuation, you must not return before the authorities have warned you that you can safely do so.
- When cleaning, wear protective clothing with rubber gloves and rubber boots.
- Gradually pump the flooded basements to avoid building damage.
