The council ordered the informal side of Lancefield to be cleaned up

The Macedon Ranges Council has a cleaning bill of approximately $ 40,000 after the order was placed to secure an "unofficial tip" in Showlers Lane, Lancefield.
The Environmental Protection Agency released a notice to restore the Council's road reserve after an investigation that resulted from a warning from the community.
Council officials covered the area with a layer of earth to minimize the potential risk of surface ascent. After the restriction, the website was closed and public access is now prohibited.
Council director for assets and operations, Shane Walden, said the council had been informed of the EPA's landfill site.
"The historical use of the site was not obvious because the thrown away garbage was covered with dirt and grass. Over time, part of the soil appears to have been eroded, exposing some of the waste, "said Walden.
"The reserve was apparently used as an informal place before Macedonia Shire Shire was founded. It is not known who threw the rubbish on the construction site. "
It is believed that the site was used as an unofficial landfill until the 1960s before it was abandoned.
The local council will regularly inspect and maintain the site to minimize the risks posed by the historic landfill.
EPA fined the MRSC $ 7,929 for exceeding seepage from another closed landfill in Lancefield in 2018.
