Google has announced its "Multiple Search" feature, which allows users to search for text and images simultaneously using Google Lens, the company's image recognition technology.
According to TechCrunch , Google first announced the feature at its Search On event last September and said it would release the feature in the coming months after testing and evaluation. Starting today, the new multi-search feature is available in English in beta in the United States.
With this feature, you can search a photo for a similar shirt but type anything with "polka dots," or take a photo of your couch and type "chair" to find a similar one, CNN explains.
As detailed in Tom's Guide , you can use Google's multi-search feature in two easy steps.
1. In the Google app, tap the Google Lens button. From there, you can browse your camera roll to get a screenshot or snap a photo.
2. The Google app lists the search results. Swipe up and tap the "+ Add to your search" button and enter your search query. You will get a results page based on your search term and photo.
The outlet also shared the idea that while Google is currently promoting multi-search as an e-commerce tool, multi-search can be expanded to other areas such as cleaning tips, first aid tips, and other handy tips.
