JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - It's allergy season in Arkansas, and with particulate matter making our noses sneeze and running like crazy, there's never been a better time for spring cleaning.
In fact, cleaning your home regularly can help reduce seasonal allergy symptoms.
In most cases, a weekly deep clean should be sufficient, but for those who are in extreme pain or are physically unable to perform such a clean, consider hiring a professional deep clean.
Angela Shields, owner and operator of Angie's Professional Cleaning in Jonesboro, said there are several little tricks you can use to reduce allergens in your home.
"Use a damp cloth. Do not use a dry cloth. Vacuum as much as possible instead of sweeping. If you sweep, you're about twice as clean," he said.
There are a few more tips you could follow this allergy season:
- Wear a mask while cleaning
- keep your windows closed
- Wash your bedding often, especially if you have pets that sleep in your bed.
- Clean areas where your pets frequent
- Do not wear warm clothes indoors; change when you get home
- Wash your car frequently
In addition to cleaning tips, Shields also had a piece of wisdom for allergy sufferers.
"Keep a handkerchief in your pocket and pray," he said.
