Nobody likes doing laundry, and you definitely can't help it, so if you're going to do it, you have to do it right.
Laundry pods have become a trend lately and it's not hard to see why. They are perfectly dosed and there is no mess making it a really great product.
But while they can be a great option, you might be making a big mistake in the way you use them.
A senior scientist at popular detergent brand Tide has pointed out the correct use of detergent capsules, and it seems many washing machine owners are wrong.
dr Jessica Zinna shared that the most common mistake is adding the detergent capsules after washing. Instead, you should discard detergent capsules first.
"The best way to use liquid detergent packets is to put them in the drum first [before adding any laundry]," said Dr. Zinna opposite Readers Digest .
"Place the [pads] in the back or bottom of the drum of the machine, not in the output drawer."
Tide's lead scientist explained that placing the detergent capsule after the laundry load can be problematic, as the pack needs as much contact with water as possible for the film to dissolve.
"When the packaging comes into contact with water, the film dissolves, allowing the cleaning ingredients to do their job and remove nasty stains and odors from the clothes," said Zinna.

If you've thrown your capsule all over your clothes and wondered why it's not doing a good job, you should probably have read the instructions from the start.
While Tide is a well-known American brand, you can buy Cold Power detergent capsules in Australia. The instructions for use say that you "put the capsule directly into the empty drum first" and "then put clothes on top of the capsule".
dr Zinna also cleared up a common misconception people have about laundry detergent capsules.
Despite what you might think, they are actually considered to be one of the most eco-friendly laundry options out there.
Its format also allows the use of more concentrated detergents.
"That means less water in cleaning product formulations, resulting in less packaging waste and less weight when transporting these products," said Zinna.

Detergent pads are not only eco-friendly, they are also ideal for consumers looking for easy-to-use products.
"They're convenient to carry [for shared laundries] and take the guesswork out of measuring with convenient, portionable doses," explained the Tide scientist.
