Summer is coming: spring cleaning - behind the hedges

Memorial Day weekend is just weeks away, which means your home in the Hamptons or North Fork may need a spring cleaning before it's ready for visitors. Wayne "Stainmaster" Edelman, CEO of Meurice Garment Care and Clean by Meurice in East Hampton, shares some tips on how to better plan your pre-season.

GARDEN FURNITURE:

The best time to clean patio furniture and cushions is in the fall, but if you forgot to treat the floor, spring is the right time to do it. Depending on the type of cover material and structure of the upholstery, we recommend thorough brushing and vacuuming, then cleaning and replacing the upholstery, or pressure washing or vacuuming with soap and water.

HOME PREPARATION:

The house needs to be prepared for the season. Although the houses are quite narrow, in the winter months we see many heat-seeking insects and webs form. Our technicians essentially "detail" the house. This is not a house clean, this is a serious deep clean using the same guidelines we have for smoke remediation and post construction cleaning. We look for the dust and dirt that cannot be seen.

WINDOW MAINTENANCE:

Curtains, drapes, and window treatments are essentially filters that trap dust and dirt as air circulates through the home. We've come a long way since my dad said, "Undress them and we'll pick them up, clean them and bring them back." Recognizing that our business is customer service and not cleaning, we come and assess the condition of your home's window treatments to determine the best cleaning procedure for them. We photograph, measure and mark everything digitally to ensure all window treatments are replaced to their original specifications.

CARPETS AND CARPETS:

Carpets, rugs, and upholstery accumulated dust and dirt during the off-season. Our teams vacuum and clean your furniture using the safest and most effective method for each space. Not all fabrics are the same and therefore not all good ones
The cleaning method and technique must be applied to each piece of furniture.

SPRING/SUMMER CLOSET:

Spring is the perfect time to look at that closet you left hanging in your closet at the beach house. All clothing must be dry cleaned at the end of the season. Cleaning will minimize potential moth damage and treat stains
They may have been invisible at the end of summer, but now they have become visible.

BED LINEN AND TOWELS:

Yuck! Are you really going to sleep in the bed that's been made and gathering dust all winter? Raw. Spring is the perfect time to clean sheets, pillows and duvets. Do you hesitate to tax your washing machine and septic tank to wash the 50 pool towels from the pool house? Send them to the experts.
