Guidance has been published on the potential health risks from flooding in Surrey.
Hundreds of residents were evacuated from their homes in Addlestone and Chertsey last week after Storm Henk brought heavy rain and flooding.
Although the water has receded, Surrey County Council's (SCC) director of public health warned that "ongoing health risks" remain.
Ruth Hutchinson said: "Floods can contain pollutants that are harmful or dangerous to human and animal health, for example from sewage. »
These can cause skin or intestinal infections through contact, he explained.
When cleaning up floodwater, the SCC recommended wearing protective equipment, washing hands after contact with floodwater and not turning on equipment until it has been inspected by a technician.
The guidance also said good ventilation was crucial.
People suffering from mental health problems following the floods were advised to contact their doctor.
