5 ways to keep your home clean and healthy this spring | Marshall County Courthouse

(BPT) - Temperatures are getting warmer and flowers are blooming, which means it's time to start a spring cleaning plan. After a long winter, it can be good to give your home a deep clean, get rid of last year's mold and welcome the change of seasons.

As viruses like the flu and COVID-19 are still around, make sure cleaning and disinfecting your home is one of your top spring cleaning tasks to keep you and your family healthy.

If you're overwhelmed by the prospect of a deep cleaning, physician assistant and dad Tony Adkins, known as the "Dancing Doctor" on TikTok, has five simple tips and tricks to help you keep your home safe from pathogens while keeping it sparkling bring to. By breaking the process down into steps, the whole family will have fun participating.

1. It's spring cleaning time

Spring cleaning doesn't have to be a time-consuming endeavor. Cleaning begins for one room at a time. Do it section by section to make it more manageable. Start by throwing out the junk and putting the important things back where they belong. It is important to clean and disinfect these areas along the way. When you're done, you'll have a tidy room and can move on to the next spot on your cleaning list.

2. Beautify the family room

The family room is where you make memories with your loved ones! Clean all surfaces, lift picture frames or photo books to remove dust from all corners. If you still have winter shoes or jackets, pick them up and put them away.

3. Make your home (and your health) shine

Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, handles, toilets, tables, kitchen counters, remote controls, and cell phones.* You can do this by usingClorox disinfectant wipes, which kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria like COVID-19 and kill the flu. Nobody wants a cold just when the weather is nice! When used as directed, it also inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria for up to 24 hours.

4. Get the children involved

When you're done with the heavy lifting and thorough sanitizing, let the kids pick some spring flowers to make and display a bouquet where the whole family can admire their handiwork. Extra challenge: when the flowers are past their prime, press the prettiest ones into a book and use the dried petals for art projects with the kids.

5. Take a break to dance

Take care of your health by staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet and remembering to have fun! Whether it's dancing in the kitchen or living room, eating together on the patio or other outdoor space, or playing board games, remember to do what makes you happy. You've done the work, now enjoy your clean rooms and relax.

How to clean a bedroom: in five easy steps | Houses and Gardens |

Wondering how to clean a bedroom to ensure it remains the sanctuary it was meant to be and the place for you to relax and recharge at the end of a busy day?

An efficient routine is the best way to keep it hygienic, create a relaxed atmosphere and look elegant without taking up more time than it should.

We've put together five-step cleaning tips that will get the job done quickly and thoroughly, and we've also asked the experts for their opinions.

how to clean a bedroom

"A messy bedroom can cause stress, cause anxiety, and even affect the quality of your sleep," says Chris Wootton, general manager of household cleaning company Poppies . "A clean and tidy bedroom helps you feel refreshed and rejuvenated and improves your chances of a restful sleep."

The answer to the question of how to clean a bedroom does not require any special tools, but it is worth gathering everything you need before you start to avoid repeated flights of stairs. Bring the vacuum cleaner including nozzle and brush attachment as well as at least one damp cloth and two microfiber cloths for dusting.

For cleaning, use your usual multi-purpose cleaning spray and glass cleaner. Alternatively, you can make your own cleaning spray using one part vinegar to nine parts water plus a squirt of dish soap.

1st order

Before you can start cleaning a bedroom, you need to have your bedroom properly decluttered and tidy . Start by picking up any items that don't belong and put them back where they belong. We're talking bedside water glasses, old newspapers and magazines you've finished reading, and any coats or shoes that must be in the foyer or hallway. Empty the trash.

Then put away any clean clothes you forgot. Clothes that have been worn once or twice and are still clean can also be put back in the closet. It's worth giving these items an area, maybe a couple of hangers to the right or a drawer so you can track consumption. Put all dirty items in the laundry basket.

2. Dust

When cleaning a room, always start dusting from the ceiling down. Use your vacuum nozzle or a long-handled feather duster to get into the cobweb-strewn corners. You can also use the vacuum cleaner on the lowest setting with the brush attachment to clean pleated blinds, curtains and light ruffles.

"Use a damp microfiber cloth for hard surfaces like metal shutters, blinds, frames, and baseboards," says Sarah Dempsey, cleaning expert at MyJobQuote . "Finally, clean and buff the mirrors and windows with a vinegar spray and a dry microfiber cloth." Don't forget to clean light switches and outlets; These frequently used touch points can harbor important germs and bacteria.

3. Throw the bed

It's a good idea to dust the bed after you've finished dusting when cleaning a bedroom to keep particles from settling on the exposed mattress. Vacuum the mattress on the lowest setting so you don't damage the upholstery, and remember that you need to deep clean a mattress regularly , just like washing a mattress cover . "This is a great opportunity to turn or flip your mattress when needed. It's also a good idea to let the mattress air out without a sheet for at least half an hour," says Kate Henderson, service manager at the Daffodil Hotel .

Wash the sheets and wash a silk pillowcase when you've invested in this luxe option. Remember that from time to time you will also need to wash a weighted blanket . Can you ask if you can wash an electric blanket ? The answer is you might be able to check the label.

When removing the bedding, take the opportunity to vacuum or clean the headboard, including any gaps between the headboard and the mattress. Consider whether it's time to wash the pillows and also a down comforter . "Research shows that if your comforter isn't washed the recommended number of times, every two to three months, it can harbor around 20,000 dust mites and their feces, making them more susceptible to allergens and irritants," says Dr. Sleep expert Martin Seeley. and CEO of MattressNextDay . "Check the label on your comforter before you wash it, but ideally wash at 60 degrees to kill any germs and bacteria."

4. empty

Now turn your vacuum to full power and attack the floor by getting under the bed and any furniture with legs as far as you can. Forget the advice to start in the farthest corner of the room and suck your way out, and instead suck when you enter the room and suck when you leave. That way you hit twice as high traffic areas," says Kate Henderson of the Daffodil Hotel.

If you have a hard floor, you may need to mop the floor afterwards as well. And if they're not too heavy, take any rugs outside to dust them, which removes more dirt than just vacuuming, and you can vacuum the floor underneath.

5. Make the bed

When you're done cleaning a room, gather freshly laundered linens and make the bed. It pays to have a backup set for the days when you deep clean the room. "Often your regular sheet set hasn't come out of the dryer by the time you're ready to make the bed, so a spare set gets the job done quicker," adds Chris Wootton.

Finally, add some pillow spray to help you fall asleep in your clean and tidy space. A fresh vase of fragrant flowers is another nice touch that will help you start each day with a smile.

How often should I tidy my room?

You can dust and vacuum the rooms once a week. Schedule a deep clean that includes putting your comforter and pillows in the washing machine and even shampooing your carpets every three months. "If cleaning machine washable pillows, do it two at a time on a gentle cycle with a small amount of detergent," adds Lisa Williams, head housekeeper in Greater, York . "Then tumble dry with a few tennis balls on low to restore its cloud-like volume."

What's the quickest way to clean a room?

It is possible to clean a double room in about 15 minutes; the key is to do it regularly. The longer you leave it on, the longer it takes to work. It also helps to tidy up the bedroom at the end of the day, put away tried on and hastily discarded clothes, and carry empty cups to the kitchen. For quick cleaning, simply wipe the main surfaces with a damp cloth and vacuum cleaner.

How do you clean a makeup bag?

Clearing away your vanity before tidying up the bedroom makes it easy to put all your beauty products in your vanity bag or drawer, no matter the state of your decor. "Researchers found that up to 90% of makeup cases were contaminated with super germs like E. coli because people didn't clean their makeup cases or products properly. Therefore, you should clean your makeup and its storage bag every month," says Martin Seeley. "This includes removing all products and cleaning them, as well as the inside and outside of the bag. However, make sure to let it dry well before closing it, because moisture creates an ideal breeding ground for other germs and bacteria.

Luckily, when toddlers accidentally throw up and spread germs, a mom and cleaning expert has shared simple ways to keep your home clean.

Jen, a mom from Scotland, shared her top cleaning tips to ward off sick bugs in a TikTok video on her account, Clean With Jen, which has been viewed more than 300,000 times.

Jen's daughter is currently contracting an illness virus and Jen revealed how she prevented it from spreading to her family.

She said, "Let's face it, there's nothing worse than a sickness virus, so here are my top tips for cleaning up after one."

His first trick, which he demonstrates with a raw egg, shows how to easily clean sick people.

Jen just sprinkles the egg with lots of salt and leaves it there for 15 minutes, then the sick ones can be easily cleaned without much mess.

At the end, Jen sprays the surface with diluted bleach to kill any remaining germs.

She says you can use it on your floors and countertops by mixing bleach with water, and the solution is good to store for 24 hours.

Finally, Jen takes all the toothbrushes and douses them with two sterilizing tablets, adding that she threw away and replaced her sick daughter's.

Viewers of the video were grateful for Jen's tips and tricks, with one mum writing: "Brilliant video with real advice!"

"Okay, I didn't know salt would help!" I could have done it last week! » Added another mother.

IT'S NO FUN WHEN YOUR KIDS GET SICK.

From runny noses to sick bugs, dealing with sick children and trying to keep your home germ-free can be difficult.

She takes a generous amount of salt and lets it sit for 15 minutes to soak up the liquid, making cleanup that much easier.

Scottish mum Jen shared her top cleaning tips to protect yourself from sick bugs in a TikTok video on her Clean With Jen account, which has over 300,000 views.

Jen's daughter is currently ill and she showed how she managed to prevent the spread of the disease in her family.

"Let's face it, nothing's worse than a sick bug," he said, "so here are my top tips for cleaning up after one."

Her first trick, which she demonstrates with a raw egg, is how to quickly clean up after an illness.

Jen simply covers the egg with a generous amount of salt and lets it sit for 15 minutes. Sick can be easily cleaned with a minimum of dirt.

Then, toss any affected clothes in the washing machine along with some Zoflora to disinfect them.

Tips for Effective Lawn Care Weed Control - Share Apex Lawn Services Inc., a...

Industry: company

Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (PRUnderground) March 26, 2022

A major challenge for any home with a lawn is weed control. Weeds grow naturally when conditions are favorable for their growth. But letting them stay takes away the beauty of your lawn. Getting rid of them is not an easy task. It requires acute care and timely maintenance. So what are the steps to take to control weeds? Let's ask a professional lawn care expert.

We tapped into the knowledge of Apex Lawn Services Inc., a 2022 ThreeBestRated® Award winning lawn care company in Waterloo, Ontario for weed control advice.
Tips for weeding your lawn:

#1 The most effective and economical way to control weeds is to raise the mower and mow the grass to 3.5 inches throughout the season.

#2 Grow grass, don't kill weeds.

#3 Fertilize regularly:

  • Spring - When the grass starts growing again (all the grass has turned green) use at least 65% slow release fertilizer which you will be feeding throughout the summer = 25% total nitrogen.
  • In Summer: Only with active grass growth, temperatures below 30°C and rain forecast, use a light, balanced 12-8-10 fertilizer, 60% slow release fertilizer = 25% total nitrogen.
  • In Fall (early September): Balanced 20-10-15 65% slow release fertilizer that helps lawn create stored resources for spring green cover = 50% total nitrogen.

#4 Pick the flowers to prevent further seeds from developing. Don't pull the plant.

  • Note: it is not possible to get the complete root and that root will grow back and you have created a hole in the growth for a new seed to grow.

#5 Iron products work effectively as long as you follow label directions. Two applications 2 to 3 weeks apart are necessary. Mix according to label directions, then add the following:

  • Add a foliar fertilizer to this mix.
  • Add a few drops of dish soap to break the surface tension of the mixture.

#6 If you're still having trouble, seek help from a real professional who offers some sort of guarantee. They cannot prevent new weeds from growing, but they should be able to handle the existing lawn.

The most important thing to understand is that weeds and bugs are not the problem. These are symptoms of poor soil health and the wrong type of weed. By identifying the source of the problem, we can grow a great lawn with a minimum of chemicals.

An avid cleaning lady has surprised fellow cleaning lovers after sharing her trick to make her washing machine drawer sparkle.

The woman, whose name is Faith, managed to pull out the drawer after noticing there was "a little bit to push" and took a close look.

Noticing that the compartment looked rather dirty, Faith cleaned it out with a simple but effective combination of hot liquid detergent, a toothbrush, and a rag.

After "a lot of scrubbing," Faith was able to get her washing machine drawer sparkling again, and many have been impressed with the satisfying results.

Speaking to the Facebook group Cleaning Tips & Tricks with before and after photos of her drawer, an incredulous Faith wrote: "How the hell could I not know that drawer was out?!

"I'm not officially an adult and I love cleaning haha! Thanks everyone for your cleaning tips and tricks."

Many other members also marveled at the seemingly little-known trick and had no idea that the drawer could be taken out and scrubbed separately in this way.

One stunned woman wrote: "They say you learn something every day. Well, that's what I learned today, thanks."

Another gasped, "I don't know about that deception either!"

As an aid to those who don't know how to move their own drawers, several members who have already tried this trick have recommended pressing on the center of the drawer, right where the fabric softener will be poured, before gently pull on it.

We will definitely try it ourselves!

The smallest glasses cleaning cloth in the world is smaller than a postage stamp!

Kuvrd, the company that brought us the universal lens cap, is funding another crazy invention. This time it's a miniature lens cloth called the WaterBear, which is as small as a postage stamp and sticks to your phone or camera so you can take it anywhere.

We all know situations where our smartphone's camera lenses fog up a bit when we take them out of our pocket, and maybe the fingerprint reader on your device just won't read. Stains and fingerprints are marks that can be left anywhere, no matter how careful we are with our devices.

Especially for photographers, a microfiber cloth is a basic utensil and an important utensil that you should always have with you, if you also wear glasses, you probably always have around three cloths at hand.

• Read more: The best cleaners for camera lenses

A super handy little device is launched that, without being dramatic, could be the solution to all of my life's problems as a four-eyed photographer glued to screens all day with a lost pet fur, navigating every crack. The WaterBear is the smallest wipe you've ever seen and contains a professional cleaning element the size of a postage stamp.

Kuvrd's proprietary fabric (pronounced covered) clings to any surface for convenient storage options that take up virtually no space when clipped to your camera lens photo on the back of your phone or in the corner of your monitor. . as seen in the video posted on their Kickstarter page. The product has over 3,500 backers at the time of writing, with £73,466 (over $96,000) pledged, far exceeding its original goal of $25,000/£1,895.

Marketed as an all-purpose glass cleaner that's washable, reusable, and sticks to any surface without leaving streaks or residue, the WaterBear is a great addition to anyone's frequent cleaning kit. The high-quality, easy-to-use cloth is designed to ensure customers are always ready to easily, instantly and safely clean devices and glass screens.

The WaterBear cloth is made from a triple-blended nano-carbon-polyamide synthetic material in a soft chamois leather with omni-directional fiber loops to clean glass without scratching it. As if that wasn't cool and practical enough, the fabric has an almost indefinite lifespan. You can put each little cloth through dozens of uses before rinsing with water and allowing to air dry to restore its sticky texture and cleaning ability. Rinse, dry, reuse.

TikToker proves the viral streak-free bathroom mirror cleaning trick doesn't work

Shaving cream seems to be ubiquitous on social media these days for its reputed success in cleaning everything from floors to stainless steel appliances .

However, one TikToker questioned its ability to effectively clean bathroom mirrors and attempted a viral shaving cream hack.

American Stephanie Booth regularly shares homemade tips and tricks on her @stephanieboothrealtor TikTok channel.

READ MORE: Mom reveals the unlikely bath product that doubles as a stain remover

She tried cleaning her bathroom mirror with shaving cream to see if it really left a streak-free shine. While the mirror looked clean from a distance, up close Stephanie could see that the shaving cream left a film.

It also had a different effect in the mirror that made it difficult to apply makeup.

Trick to clean bathroom mirror from TikTok

"My light is refracted in a strange way in the mirror," he said in the video.

Stephanie moved her ring light close to the mirror to highlight the shaving cream stains and it was definitely dirty and matte.

He then used a microfiber cloth to clean the stains and found that they didn't move.

"Actually, I'm not surprised that shaving cream is a poor mirror cleaner, and that's because it's basically soap mixed with lubes. I just lubed and lathered this mirror, which is great if you want a fog-free mirror, but if you want a streak-free mirror I'd skip the shaving cream," he said.

Instead of shaving cream, Stephanie recommends spraying on distilled water and wiping with a microfiber cloth.

Trick to clean bathroom mirror from TikTok
Distilled water and a microfiber cloth worked much better for Stephanie than shaving cream. (TIC Tac)

Stephanie ended her video by asking her followers what they thought of shaving cream as a mirror cleaner, and they mostly agreed.

"Shaving cream is much more expensive than window cleaner! one person commented.

"Vinegar and water work best," said one woman.

Some people have commented that the main purpose of the shaving cream mirror trick is to prevent the mirror from fogging up. Stephanie admitted she stopped him from fogging, but in the end the mirror looked far from ideal.

The shaving cream trick might not be great on mirrors, but many people have found it works wonders when it comes to removing urine smell from bathrooms .

One woman shared her success with this trick on the Cleaning and Organizing Inspiration Australia Facebook group.

"Three children in the house, including two and three years old. I finished the first one and it smells great so let's move on to the second bathroom now," she posted alongside three photos.

Shaving cream was rubbed into the affected area and left on for 10 minutes to an hour before drying.

"It's not easy to clean, but the results are undeniable (and it's really just an extra mop of area after the main volume has been lifted for the first time). I didn't believe it until I tried it," one person commented.

Rent or buy carpet cleaners? - Tom's guide

We've all experienced shock and horror when it comes to sudden carpet stains. Whether you're trying to remove a red wine stain or your kids are forcing you to research how to remove paint from carpet , all types of stains can be unsightly in appearance and cause us to rub our hands and knees together.

Whether you're dealing with a single stain or your entire carpet needs a makeover, there's one piece of equipment that can really help: a carpet cleaner.

Carpet cleaners are designed to remove stains in a single pass using a combination of detergent and water. But while useful, they are quite bulky to store and can be very expensive to purchase. Even though you need it to freshen up your carpet, you'll probably only use it once a year. For this reason, many of us rent carpet cleaners instead of buying them.

However, with more and more compact and affordable carpet cleaners entering the market, the question arises as to whether it is worth buying one of these spout savers. Here we look at the advantages of renting a carpet cleaner versus buying a carpet cleaner to help you decide.

What is a carpet cleaner?

First, let's take a close look at what a carpet cleaner is and what it can do. When first introduced, carpet cleaners were primarily rented to consumers to clean their own carpets. They had a great industrial look with a cylindrical design - imagine a bulkier version of a cylindrical vacuum cleaner.

The cleaning method is very similar to today's, with water and detergent being applied to the mat through the head and then vacuumed at the same time, taking the dirt with it. This method allows you to sweep the carpet like you would a vacuum cleaner.

Since then, the design and performance of carpet cleaners have improved, resulting in more compact models that are now often upright in shape for convenience. That's why carpet cleaners now look like clunky handheld vacuums. There are usually tools and accessories that you can use to clean other areas as well, e.g. B. Upholstery.

You can also find even smaller portable carpet cleaners designed for spot cleaning. These can be hand worn and are specifically designed for spills and stains rather than freshening up entire patches of carpet. Both types of carpet cleaners can be rented by the day or even by the hour, or they can be purchased outright. They are more common on the market these days and are available at most electronics stores.

Benefits of hiring a carpet cleaner

1. You don't have to put it away: Carpet cleaners are quite large and heavy, with some weighing as much as 57 pounds. The machine takes up a lot of space even without detergent. By renting you save this space.

2. You get more professional performance: In general, a carpet cleaner for hire has a more industrial design and better performance. Store-bought ones are more for everyday use. This is not always the case, but one should be aware of it.

3. You only pay for the time you need - You can make sure you don't overpay by hiring the carpet cleaner for the time you need. Some can even be rented by the hour, especially hand-held carpet cleaners.

4. Cheaper option than paying a professional to do it: By taking care of it you will save money compared to paying a professional to clean your carpets. Also, you can clean the carpets whenever you want instead of working to your schedule.

5. You are not liable for instant failures: if the carpet cleaner arrives faulty, you can report it and use another. On the other hand, if you have the same problem with your own carpet cleaner and it is no longer under warranty, you should buy a new one.

6. A better source of advice: If you need advice or tips on how to clean your carpets, a brand that specializes in the subject is likely to be more helpful than a big company.

The advantages of buying a carpet cleaner

1. You have it on call: If suddenly something spills or gets dirty, you have a carpet cleaner ready to go and don't have to worry about time pressure.

2. It is technically cheaper: After several years of renting a carpet cleaner, the costs of the purchase will inevitably be cheaper. For example, if a machine costs $50 to rent or $250 to buy, after 5 years you will have spent the same amount of money, but by buying it you will end up with an asset.

3. You don't have to rely on availability: You may be in dire need of a carpet cleaner, but if one isn't available for hire in your immediate area, you're kind of stuck. You must wait for one to become available or move on. If you own a machine, you don't have to worry about that.

4. You do not have to drive or transport the washing machine to/from the rental location. It's actually a lot more hassle than it sounds, especially if you don't have a car. Carpet cleaners are heavy and bulky, and when you rent them you usually have to pick them up and drop them off at a specific location.

5. Again, cheaper than paying a pro - Of course it's cheaper than paying a pro to clean your carpets and you can fit the task into your schedule.

Rent or buy carpet cleaners?

Whether you rent or buy a carpet cleaner ultimately depends on your situation and needs. If you don't have the wherewithal or the storage space to store more equipment, renting is the obvious choice. However, if your home is constantly plagued by spills and stains, especially from children and pets, it may be better to invest in a manual carpet cleaner to keep it clean and ready to go.

If your carpets need a deep cleaning, you can also choose to have it done by a professional to save you the hassle. There is no right or wrong answer here, but remember to consider your needs before making a decision and remember that ultimately buying is the most economical option compared to renting. .
