We are experts in furniture ... our advice will allow you to soil your wicker, metal and wooden garden ... - El Sol

The experts from INDUSTRY have revealed simple tricks that you can use to make your dirty garden furniture shine again with ordinary household items.

With summer in full swing, most of us take advantage of the warm evenings to have a barbecue in the backyard.

There are some easy ways to make your patio furniture look new again using common household items.

But over time you will find that your new patio furniture is starting to look a bit worn and in dire need of some maintenance.

While it may be easier to throw out rusty chairs and replace them with new ones, don't rush to the stores just yet, as experts have revealed several methods for cleaning them.

Speaking to The Express , Luxury Rattan and metals4U gurus explained how to remove dirt and rust from patio furniture using common household items like a toothbrush.

rattan furniture

Laura Schwarze, director of Luxury Rattan, said: "If you find dirt trapped in the rattan weave, use a toothbrush to loosen it.

"Then you should be able to clean or vacuum it easily.

"When washing rattan furniture, it's important to be careful and avoid harsh detergents or chemicals."

For best results, Genie recommends using warm, soapy water and gently wiping.

Laura added: "After cleaning your furniture, be sure to check your chair and table legs and replace them with new glides if they are scratched or damaged to bring them back to life and improve their longevity.

metal furniture

Many garden items such as chairs and tables are made of steel, and while this is a material that can last a long time, it is also prone to rusting, especially when left outdoors for long periods of time.

Metals4U CEO Paul McFayden said: "Rust is a type of corrosion in general that is difficult to remove from metal surfaces and therefore needs to be treated carefully to avoid damaging furniture.

"The best way to remove rust when you've already seen it on your furniture is simple.

"Simply pour white vinegar evenly over the surface of the furniture and give it time to settle, an hour should suffice.

"Once you've done that, just wipe it off with a gloved cloth and repeat again if needed."

wooden furniture

Like all furniture, anything made of wood can deteriorate over time, but there are ways to keep it looking new.

Laura said: "If you have an old wooden rattan furniture that looks less used, I recommend using a soft cloth and rubbing some olive oil on the product.

"This will reduce cracking and add shine to your rattan making it look like new."

"Alternatively, you can give your wooden furniture a coat of paint to completely change the atmosphere of your outdoor space.

"To make painting natural rattan as easy as possible, it's best to use spray paint.

"Before you begin, make sure your furniture is clean and dry and that you have set up a well-ventilated paint spraying area. Also, don't forget your safety goggles and a face shield.

You will also need to apply a primer before working with the spray paint.

Depending on the paint used, several thin coats may be required before applying a top coat.

MIDAS STOCK TIPS: Clean - from the struggle of the big brand leaders | it is money

Week after week, the cost of living crisis drives up the prices of everyday necessities like shower gel and liquid detergent.

Housewares giants Unilever and Reckitt told a tale of price inflation when they released results last week, but also upgraded earnings forecasts, suggesting sales will remain strong even if customers in stock markets dwindle.

Many analysts are fans of stocks and describe their beloved brands as strong and reliable. They also cite a track record of successful turnarounds at Reckitt and established positions in emerging markets and high margins at Unilever. Both companies also pay good dividends.

Sparkle: Unilever, which makes Cif a household cleaner, has loyal customers who are willing to pay higher prices

But there's a big question mark for both companies in the coming years as we all grapple with mounting bills. Of course, with prices rising, it's tempting to buy a branded clean kitchen cleaner instead of a more expensive bottle like Cif. Indeed, it will be fascinating to see how buyers react to Marmite, which is made by Unilever and costs 11% more.

Is Reckitt, the maker of Durex, the protection your wallet needs as inflation continues to hit us, or will he, as the maker of Gaviscon, digest your investments?

unilever

First, consider Unilever, the former Anglo-Dutch conglomerate that became British in 2020 as part of a simplification of its shareholder structure.

The company may have been streamlined from a business standpoint, but it remains a global tangle of 400 brands, with Dove, Lifebuoy and Knorr being the strongest.

And juggling responsibilities has not been easy for management. The company's share price has lagged the market since 2017, when it turned down an offer from competitor Kraft.

In January, Unilever made its own bid for the consumer business of pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. This failed and the Sensodyne, Aquafresh and Chapstick businesses have now been spun off from GSK as Haleon.

Veteran investor Terry Smith made no bones about the episode, describing it as a "near-death experience" for Unilever and suggesting management should step down.

Smith, a major shareholder in Unilever through investment fund Fundsmith Equity, isn't the only investor whose management should be concerned. In May, activist shareholder Nelson Peltz joined the board, hinting that he would cease operations and possibly even force a dissolution like he has done at other companies.

As a result, the company had a lot to prove with last week's first half-year results. Up to a point he has delivered. The company reported a 1.6% decline in sales volume, but dollar-denominated sales rose 8% and analysts raised their full-year earnings guidance.

All of this is encouraging, but there's a bugbear on the horizon that can't be mollified with a magnum or two. Yes, inflation, which has already boosted Unilever company prices by 11%.

Chief Operating Officer Graeme Pitkethly says consumers are happy to pay these higher prices right now, but there will certainly come a time when people will trade their Ben & Jerry's for Tesco Value vanilla. At that point, Unilever's sales volume will continue to decline.

reckit

At first glance, Reckitt looks like a smaller Unilever. It is a brand-based company whose main brands include Dettol, Finish and Durex.

However, shareholders have been fooled with a 20% rise in the company's stock price over the past 12 months.

Reckitt is a story of change. It struggled to digest formula brand Mead Johnson in 2017 and has since changed management and funded a reorganization. Last week's results have been decent, although the Covid comparison makes it difficult to see the bigger picture. People are no longer spraying Dettol every five minutes, but are buying more Nurofen and Strepsils as the virus is rampant.

The company took advantage of an infant formula shortage in the United States caused by the closure of a rival Abbott's factory. It now feeds about half of America's babies, a fact that partially explains the strength of its numbers.

However, analysts were encouraged that results were consistently strong, with CitiBank's Cedric Besnard saying numbers in all categories "support the thesis that the company has finally turned around."

The company faces the same inflationary hurdles as its competitor, but in a slightly different way. Reckitt CFO Jeff Carr is focused on driving savings across the company's brands and believes there's more left in the company's toothpaste tube in terms of efficiency.

Although Carr said it was committed to "responsible" pricing, the company increased prices by 9.7% in the three months ended June.

MIDAS RULING: It's convenient for investors that Reckitt and Unilever are reporting in the same week. These two companies in the same industry show how management intervention can make a difference when companies are hit by the same economic storms.

For now, Reckitt appears to be a better choice as it is well run and streamlined and strives to develop new brands to meet customer demand (laundry sanitizer is the latest innovation as the energy crisis causes people to buy their clothes at lower washing temperatures).

Unilever continues to expand and is uncertain. She's already increased prices by 11%, raising questions about how much her customers will be carrying.

However, we also need to look at company valuations. With a yield of 4.3% and a price-to-earnings multiple of 18 times forward 2022 earnings, Unilever is trading at a 20% discount to peers in the UK and abroad. Shares fell 3.6% over 12 months to £40.03.

Reckitt shares are up more than 18% over the same period to £66.46. The estimated dividend yield for this year is 2.7% and forward price-to-earnings per share is 20 times 2022 earnings, meaning it's the most expensive pick.

Reckitt is a solid company, but with the possibility of Peltz stepping in to stock up on Unilever's inventory and a loyal customer base willing to pay higher prices, it might be worth opting for new Unilever ice cream tomorrow , instead of today for Jam Reckitt. .

Are you trying to stay organized? Ask Angi for tips on cleaning your garage

If your garage looks more like a black hole than useful storage space, it's time to make some changes.

Mallory Micetich, Home Care Expert at Ask Angi, shares some tips on how to make the most of your space.

"If you want to get the most out of your garage, start by developing a storage plan. I recommend measuring and drawing the space and then planning where you want to store different things. For example, you can organize different areas of your garage into different categories, such as tools, exercise equipment, or lawn care. Saving your items by category makes it easier to maintain and can help you find things faster," Micetich said.

Even the perfect organizational system can only go so far when you have too much stuff. Go through all the items in your garage and throw or donate anything you no longer need.

When you're done separating the two stacks, go through everything you save and find out what category it belongs to. After you've categorized all your items into bins, shelves, or compartments, label them to make them easier to find.

"Your garage stores a lot of important items, some of which can be quite heavy. Consider investing in sturdy metal shelving that will allow you to stack these heavier items. Hooks, wall storage or a workbench to organize the little things. Are you paying attention to your natural habits so the system is accessible regularly?'" Micetich said.

To stay organized, Ask Angi suggests creating a schedule to keep it that way. Your schedule will depend on how you use the space, so experiment and find something that works for you.

Micetich said: "If you're still not sure where to start, or if you're too busy to tend to your garage, consider hiring a professional organizer. A professional can help you find an organization system that's perfect for your specific needs and your specific garage. They will set you up for success so you can have an organized garage for years to come.

Keeping a clean and organized garage frees up time so you can focus on other things such as: B. Spending time with family or pursuing your hobbies.

Marie Kondo shares back-to-school tips for a successful morning - Oprah Daily

marie kondo and stasher bags

Marie Kondo grabs Stasher.

KonMari

Storage expert, New York Times bestselling author Spark Joy , and star of the Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo , Marie Kondo is a mother of three who understands how difficult going back to school can be. "There are many different things to consider when it comes to putting together a successful back to school morning routine," Kondo told Oprah Daily. "There are some specific ways that families can create a quiet and clutter-free environment that increases both productivity and morning spirit." Below, Kondo brings you top tips and tricks for relieving stress when your family is away is.

Start preparing the night before.

Mornings are busy, so do as much ahead of time as possible to make those mornings less chaotic. "I want to encourage my own family and others to prepare ahead of time to make the process as smooth as possible," says Kondo. "A great way to make morning routines go smoothly is for you and your kids to practice evening routines by putting away school supplies and backpacks, getting clothes ready for the next morning, starting to pack lunch, or necessities organize for later." School activities."

Set your intention.

Kondo is famous for the KonMari Method™ , an organizational technique that revolves around intention, commitment and joy. "The same goes for any task in life that you want to be successful at," says Kondo. "If you approach your morning school routine with a clear vision and a positive attitude, you will find the energy and motivation you need to get everything done and you will enjoy the process."

Mark why.

Leaving the house in the morning can be difficult. There are breakfasts to prepare, lunches to prepare, socks to find and of course you need to prepare as well. The result is that we often bark commands at our kids to get things done faster. But it can be difficult for kids to follow the morning routine if they don't fully understand the "why" behind what's being asked. "When you get organized in the morning, explain to your kids why you're doing [a] task so they can learn from you," says Kondo. For example, instead of asking him to fill the dog bowls with food and water, say, "Hey, can you fill the dog bowls so Scottie has something to eat and drink to take you to school?" Instead of just being commanded, and before you know it, you don't have to explain it to them: they will understand and feel able to help themselves.

Build in fun moments.

Kondo explains that incorporating small reminders of happiness throughout the morning is beneficial. "My family and I love fresh flowers from our garden," she says. "Earlier in the week I'll cut up some and put them around the house to remind my kids to stop and enjoy the little things in life." Another idea: if your kids like a specific breakfast, even if it's a little longer lasts, try once a week. "Finding ways to spark joy in the morning will be different for every family, but it pays to remind your kids that as important as work is to our daily lives, we also don't forget the importance of moments of joy allowed to! "

Set age-appropriate tasks.

Kondo believes there are many ways children can get involved in the back-to-school morning routine, and it's important to keep their ages in mind. Focusing on following a routine can be extremely beneficial for young children. "Routines are great for little kids because they're just starting school and they understand they're growing up," she says. "A regular routine at home will prepare you for what is to come in life." A routine you can get the little ones involved in? Pack their lunches. Kondo has partnered with Stasher , who make leak-proof, reusable silicone pouches and trays. "We can pack them for the kids' lunches at school or daycare, which makes organizing backpacks and lunch boxes a breeze," she says. "I can easily write on each of the pockets so everything has its place and is easy to store." Prepare food supplies, then let your kids help you fill the bags.

For older children (think teenagers!), the routine morning back-to-school process is a little different. Kondo says many teens this age don't need help with things like making snacks, but it's still important to have a routine. "In my book , The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up , I discuss the importance of visualizing your ideal lifestyle. This idea can be applied to older children as they begin their days and lives as young adults. Encouraging your older children to set these goals will help them search for the best versions of themselves [every day]."

Tips for a Safe Summer Garden - NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Cooling your yard and home in the summer can be satisfying, but it can also be dangerous. Last year, nearly 262,000 people went to the emergency room for injuries related to yard work, including mowing the lawn, cutting branches and pressure washing. Consumer Reports has safety tips to help you avoid hazards while working outdoors.

Lawn mowers caused around 70,000 injuries last year. A lawn mower blade spins thousands of times per minute and can turn a rock or dog toy into a dangerous projectile.

Therefore, before cutting, check the area for stones and branches. Protect yourself with closed shoes and long pants. When mowing hills, drive across the slope instead of up and down; The mower is easier to control.

Be careful when using a lawn mower on uneven ground. Many people die because the lawn mower falls on them. So unlike walk behind mowers, walk behind mowers should always drive up and down slopes, not over them. And NEVER let a child ride with you.

Last year there were 137,000 emergency room visits related to stair accidents. Therefore, check your ladder for loose parts, sharp edges or bent rungs before you climb it. Then set it down safely: Set it down on a level floor with the base 12 inches from the wall every 4 feet that the ladder reaches. It should also extend 3 feet above your ceiling or workspace. When climbing, always keep both hands on the rails and step into the middle of the ladder.

Pressure washing is very satisfying, but beware of potential dangers. Be aware of your surroundings. Stray children or pets can be seriously injured if they disturb the powerful jet. And CR recommends that you DISCARD the red "zero" spray nozzle that may have come with your washing machine. It's more dangerous than useful.

Another CR Gardening Safety Tip: Hedge trimmers are great for bushes and shrubs, but you should always keep your feet on the ground while you work. For tall hedges, consider an extension model rather than working from a ladder.

How to clean your phone without damaging it and 5 products you should never use

Our phones are always with us wherever we go. Whether we're curled up in bed, sitting on the toilet, riding public transport, or going out at night, our smartphones never leave us.

However, this means that our phones collect all the bacteria and germs that can reside in all these places that settle on the surface of our phone.

Before Covid-19 , cleaning and disinfecting our belongings, including our phones, might not have been very important.

But since the pandemic, health experts have suggested cleaning our phones at least once a day.

But before you quickly clean your phone with a damp cloth, here's what you should know to clean it without damaging it.

How do I clean my phone?

young woman with smartphone
It's important to properly clean your phone as improper handling can cause damage

Ideally, you should try to clean your phone at least once a day by following the cleaning instructions in your phone's manual.

It's important to clean your phone properly, as improper cleaning (using tools like alcohol and paper towels) can damage the coating that protects your phone and can lead to damage.

If you clean it properly, not only will your phone be free from germs and dirt, but it will also last longer.

What can you use to clean your phone?

Man talking on the phone in the bathroom
Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe away fingerprints

When cleaning your phone, Apple recommends using wipes with 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% ethyl alcohol, or Clorox disinfecting wipes.

The best type of cloth for cleaning your phone is a soft, lint-free cloth dipped in warm, soapy water to slightly dampen it. A lens cloth or microfiber cloth is a good option.

Regularly cleaning the phone with a damp microfiber cloth helps remove fingerprints from the phone screen and the method is also useful for cleaning the back and sides of the phone.

You can also use a microfiber screen cleaning sticker that you stick on the back of your phone and then remove when you need to clean it.

When it comes to removing lint and grit from your phone's small ports, a nifty trick is to use duct tape.

Apply the tape along the folds and the speaker to remove the dirt between the screen and the body of the phone. For the ports, gently roll it up and place inside. The adhesion of the tape will remove any lint or sand in these areas.

For small speaker holes that cannot be reached with tape, use a toothpick to gently remove dust.

What products should you avoid when cleaning your phone?

Do not use bleach or hydrogen peroxide products to clean your phone as they will damage it.

Although you can touch your phone after using the hand sanitizer, please do not use the liquid to clean the phone as the alcohol content is too strong.

Other products such as glass cleaner and vinegar should be avoided at all costs as they can destroy the phone's protective coating.

Of course it goes without saying, but do not immerse your phone in any liquid, be it water or cleaning liquid, even if the phone is marketed as waterproof.

Never use a paper towel to clean it, even if you really need to clean your phone.

Paper towels may seem harmless, but when they come in contact with dirt like grains of sand that are already on the phone's surface, they can scratch it.

Finally, remember to unplug all cables and turn off your phone before beginning the cleaning process.

The first step may seem obvious, but how effectively you can remove the stain is important; You have to know what you're dealing with. Is the stain from an oil-based lipstick? Is it powder eyeshadow? Are your sheets a cotton blend or something more delicate (like silk)?

It's important to answer all of these questions before you start pouring a mixture of solutions onto your linens, as different cleaning solvents work better on certain stains and fabrics. (I'll break down what's best for each stain later.) Once you've done that, you're ready to start the cleaning process.

Pro tip: start the cleaning process right away! The older the stain, the deeper it penetrates the fabric and the harder it is to remove.

remove excess

This is the quickest step in the process, but it's important not to skip it. Gently scrape the stain with a spoon or butter knife to remove any excess stains that may have adhered to the linens. This process not only makes the stain smaller, but also prevents the excess from spreading when you pour liquid solvent onto the stain. You can also blot the stain with a damp paper towel before you start applying the solutions.

Prepare and apply your cleaning solution

Now it's time to clean up. Below I list the methods and solutions that work best for each type of makeup stain.

I highly recommend testing the solution on a small, inconspicuous area first, e.g. B. in a corner to ensure the solution does not damage or mark your linens.

Remove lipstick

Most lipsticks are oil based, which means you need a solution to remove that oil base. A mixture of dish soap and warm water can work, but rubbing alcohol is most effective for removing lipstick stains.

Simply dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and gently blot the stain. This process works best with fresh cotton balls, so don't be afraid to use several. The red or pink pigment should begin to fade as you repeat the process.

remove liquid foundation

Foundation is perhaps the most common makeup stain on linens. Luckily, there are several effective cleansing solutions to combat makeup stains.

A 3% hydrogen peroxide solution is one of your best options. Once applied, work the solution into the fabric with a clean toothbrush.

Another common household item that works surprisingly well is shaving cream. Apply shaving cream to the stained area and leave it on for three to five minutes before gently rubbing the area with a clean, damp cloth. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.

Remove eyeliner and mascara

Dish soap is a viable option for removing eyeliner and mascara from linens. Simply mix a few drops (up to a tablespoon) of grease-fighting detergent with 2 cups of warm water, dip a clean cloth in the solution and gently blot the stain until it begins to lift from the fabric.

Be sure to blot gently instead of rubbing to avoid spreading the stain. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Powdered makeup remover

From eyeshadow to blush, there are several powder-based makeups that unfortunately can mess up your linens. Powder make-up stains are best treated with undiluted liquid detergent. Simply apply the detergent directly to the stain and leave for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Remove cosmetic stains from silk pillowcases

Your silk pillowcase has many benefits: it causes less damage to your hair, helps your skin retain moisture and stays cleaner for longer. Besides, silk is so luxurious. On the other hand, it is also difficult to wash and easily damaged. Luckily, you don't have to ditch a silk pillowcase if you have cosmetic stains on it — you can use many of the tips listed above.

For most makeup stains on a silk pillowcase, you can use a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. You can also use diluted household ammonia (2:1 water to ammonia ratio) on silk to remove most stains. Use a clean rag or cotton ball to apply the remedy, but remember to wear gloves to protect your hands.

wash your bedding

After applying the solution and allowing enough time for the mixture to soak into the stain, clean the linens in the washing machine as usual. Do not put the linens in the dryer until the entire stain has been removed after the wash cycle. The heat of the dryer can actually cause stains to set even more, making them difficult to remove once and for all. Otherwise, let your linens air dry.
