Soften hard towels “permanently” by adding 1 natural wash product, not vinegar.

Although white vinegar is often touted as a miracle household cleaner and even touted as one of the best laundry ingredients, sometimes it just doesn't work.

One woman, Sarah Bray, posted in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook group that her towels looked like "cardboard".

She was dissatisfied with white vinegar 's ability to soften towels and asked, "How do they keep [hand and bath towels] looking new?" »

The frustrated cleaning enthusiast added: "Mine are mostly like cardboard and vinegar won't fix them!"

Many replies advised Sarah to remove any fabric softener she may have used and suggested adding baking soda crystals to her laundry.

One helpful commenter advised: "Do not use fabric softener as it reduces absorbency. » Another agreed: "I never use fabric softener. »

Mary Robinson shared her experience: "I have stopped using fabric softener and use baking soda instead." She advised: "Soak the towels with soda crystals and warm water and leave them for at least 30 minutes before putting them in the washing machine. This makes the towels nice and soft."

Another employee, Carmel Gardiner, revealed her laundry secret: "After I stopped using fabric softener and switched to soda crystals , my towels are now always so soft."

When asked how much she uses, Carmel explains, "I put a little soda crystals in the three compartments. This makes the water softer and is also suitable for machine cleaning: wash at 60°C."

Hayley Yates, another reviewer, shared her own experience: "I use soda crystals with my towels to keep them soft.

"I had some towels that got a little crunchy, but that was quickly resolved after the first wash."

For best results after washing, shake towels vigorously to loosen the fibers so they don't stick together when drying.

If you air dry the towels indoors, remember to place the towels on a drying rack or hang them to maximize the drying area and speed up the drying process.
