Consumer Reports: Tips for Thoroughly Cleaning Soiled Headphones

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) - If your headphones sound a bit muffled or quieter, do not buy a new one at this time. Consumer reports say they could be dirty.
Everyone uses hearing aids, but how many people do they clean?
According to Consumer Reports, you only need ten minutes and some household items.

"If your headset has removable earmuffs, you'll need to remove them and clean them separately, so this toothpick is helpful," says Thomas Germain, technical editor for Consumer Reports. "He just wants to take that and gently rub it and just remove all the trash." He does not want to stick sticks in the inside of his helmet, it is quite difficult there and can be easily damaged. "
"If your headset has a mesh screen that covers the wires, this can be a hot spot for the wax, and you can simply use the toothbrush to clean it. Clean your tulle screens with a dry cotton swab. Be very friendly again "adds Germain. "For larger helmets and in the ear, if the pads are removable, you'll want to remove them and clean them separately, and you want to use your toothbrush again on these screens, you want to pamper them."

For outdoor use, just a few drops of mild soap in hot water. Only dry with a towel - water and electronic components do not mix.

"Take your clothes, rub them out here, clean them and take your second microfiber towel and clean it as soon as it's done." It is better not to let them air-dry. "Clean your helmet from time to time, it will have a good sound and help you last longer," said Germain.

Avoid alcohol according to Consumer Reports. Although plastic and rubber can be used, alcohol can dissolve the foam. Take it with mild soap and water.

Baby towels could be a good alternative. Be sure to use odorless and alcohol-free cloths.
