Tips for fighting against corn

The higher incidence of stem rot combined with strong winds in some states has left a confused message in some areas. Here are some tips for harvesting corn.
1. Start the harvest on the side of the field in favor of the wind.
2. Use your head as close to the ground as possible and reduce the angle.
3. Reduce forward speed. Adjust the speed of the collection line and the registration roller to match the speed of the combination.
4. If the field speeds are significantly reduced, this means that the amount of material beaten and separated is reduced. You probably need to reduce the speed of the rotor and the cleaning fans to avoid losses in the core.
5. Adjust the gathering chains for more aggressive operation with opposite points and relatively close together. Change the collection lines to increase the aggression.
6. Adjust the cover plates so they are a little farther apart than the corn stalks.
7. Use your head as deep as possible.
8. Harvesting in one direction against steep trunks can help. However, first reduce the ranges and evaluate the losses before you waste a lot of time on the field.
9. Adding a corn coil to the head may or may not help limit losses. However, a spool seems to allow a higher speed of movement. Another accessory to consider is spiral cones mounted on line separators.
10. For heavily sown corn, you can try harvesting with a grain platform. When doing this, keep in mind that the amount of material that does not get into the combine is greater. This requires a concave increase in free space and clean ventilation speeds.
