Why is a robot janitor the best partner of the outer worlds?

Having a robot as a friend is almost the dream of every science fiction lover. If you play The Outer Worlds, you'll find a robot partner to help you with your adventures. And this robot is not only a great companion, but it is the best of the six companions of the outer worlds .

His name is SAM, which means hygiene and maintenance. The owner of his boat has found the caretaker in a dip tank and only needs to be repaired to activate it and turn it into a weapon.

What is SAM doing so well? All the things of a buncha. Note : Here are some small spoilers for other Outer Worlds.

It's literally just a robot

In science fiction, he rarely meets a main character who is just a robot. Robots are usually human boundaries. If they still have no emotions, they at least strive to have them. They want to understand why we cry, they want to know what love is, they watch old movies with their heads bent and try desperately to understand human nature. Usually his deepest desire is to become truly human. And I'm really tired of this shit.

I say that robots are sometimes robots. SAM is just a robot. Participate in group discussions (as in the previous GIF with sound), but only to formulate a programmed marketing line about your brand and model or to give cleaning advice or to explain what elements of the human type you are talking about. It is not , Often her lines remain metaphorically relevant in conversation, which is fun, but it is a wonderfully simple soul. It's a machine and likes to clean. In a world where motivations, opinions and feelings are complicated, we appreciate that.

It is an excellent cleaner

SAM regards your enemies as the Earth: something that needs to be suppressed. And nothing comes out of the dirt like, well, acid. SAM has been modified and equipped with an acid spray hose to wash your enemies and is as effective as hell. Imagine Rosie Jetsons with the Terminator chip in her head and you get the picture.

For SAM, the world is full of stains that need to be cleaned, and a dose of high-pressure acid is exactly what you need. Set SAM's combat behavior to aggressive (you'll find it in the Companion Menu) and focus it. He will cleanse the way for you (and cleanse).

It is also an excellent cleaner.

But literally SAM is a cleaner one. It was built to clean, and when it's not in combat, that's what it does. While his other companions are sitting in his boat and spending the time talking, SAM will tremble to keep the place clean. It will dust the consoles, water the floors (with water, without acid) and keep its bright spaceship.

It is a wrecking ball

SAM's special attack is a trick. It's great It stretches in the air and goes barefoot on every enemy you aim for. It's a devastating attack that almost always changes your opponent if he does not kill them directly.

In combination with its acidic tube it is a real engine. Fly, hit, beat down your enemies, then open the acid nozzle and extinguish the sluggish enemy to the end with toxic chemicals. Often, there is nothing left but to see and appreciate the teacher at work. There are robots for that: to make your life easier (and the death of your enemy).

It has no moral compass

Sometimes classmates resist their actions, for example when I ask one of the human partners to attack members of their own family. It was certainly a blow of mine, but I only did it to see what would happen! What happened was that this partner followed my instructions, savagely attacked his loved ones, then got angry and left me forever.

As far as I know, SAM has no family that could be attacked. (We met another cleaning robot, but did not seem to recognize it). But even if he did, surely he would unscrupulously attack her or protest if he asked. I'm not always a lazy fool in games, but if it's me, I guess my followers do not criticize and joke.

Does not flock

There are stairs to climb in The Outer Worlds, and your teammates follow your lead and climb as well. But SAM is not really designed for this kind of trip, so he uses his rocket-propelled knees to go up and down stairs. Why is that an advantage? It's fair The rockets are better than the feet.

He does not squat either, but if you try to be secret, he's careful enough to silence his speakers.

His story is simple.

It is the duty of every captain to meet the crew members, because when you talk to your teammates you sometimes have missions that you can complete or stories that you explain a bit more. I asked SAM about himself and his whole story was that he had been sent completely assembled in a corrugated iron box.

No entanglements No problem No long, long stories. That's his story. It's very easy

You can hack it for fun

Sounds naughty, especially if you like SAM as much as I did. But while you are in your boat, you can sneak up behind him and hack him. This disables it and causes it to bend and throw sparks. It's ... a little sad to be honest. And I saw this as a person who commanded one of his companions to extinguish his loved ones.

But no worry! After a minute, he recovers and goes to work as if nothing had happened.

The ship's computer has a weakness for him.

As I said, SAM likes to order the ship, but I immediately hit him while using a feather duster on the deck. ADA, the ship's computer, seemed to ... enjoy it a bit (you can enable the sound in the GIF above).

ADA definitely has a weakness for SAM and its talents with a handful of pens. SAM does not seem to notice or care. It's the important thing about a robot that is just a robot. There are no confusing feelings or unrequited love on your part. SAM just does his job and as always he does it well.
