As the school year comes to an end, many high school students across the county are preparing for semester exams. But Friday, May 10, was not a typical end-of-year day for a group of about 45 students at Clements High School.
When they arrived at the school, the group - made up of Future Farmers of America as well as football and basketball members - left the school and headed to the community of Brigadoon, which was hit hard by one during the violent storms on May 8th Tornado struck.
As chainsaws whirred in the background, students could be seen collecting branches, shingles and wood chips, then placing them in piles along the side of the road for collection.
"We started our FFA chapter from the ground up," said Lexi Evans, FFA president and Clements sophomore. "This community has given us a lot to create the perfect foundation, so this is the least we can do."
Evans posed the question to his FFA colleagues after the storms passed and said none of them hesitated or hesitated.
"Nobody turned it down," Evans said. "Our principal, our teachers, they all agreed. I'm very, very proud that I was able to come here and help.
