Survey Reveals the Most Important Step in Vacation Preparation | FOX 28 Spokane

Do you hate coming home to a dirty house after a nice trip? Are you worried about the scratch on your favorite suitcase?

A new survey has identified some of the top cleaning habits of 2,000 American travelers as the summer peak season begins.

One thing is clear: it is important to prioritize cleaning the house before leaving: more than 75% of respondents said they prefer to clean their house before leaving.

In fact, the average respondent starts planning their trip more than two weeks in advance.

Before traveling, people tend to focus on cleaning clothes (77%), dishes (66%), bathing (58%), and sweeping and mopping (56%).

The research, commissioned by Mr Clean for the launch of its new Ultra range of magic erasers and carried out by Talker Research, found that 66% of respondents are so excited about their upcoming trip that it motivates them to clean before they leave .

While the anticipation of an upcoming trip can be a great motivator for people to complete their cleaning tasks, it can also be a stressor for summer travelers.

51 percent said they "dread" the thought of having to clean after returning from vacation.

"Cleaning before the holidays helps me relax and enjoy it even more knowing I can return to a clean home," said Lydia Joo, brand director of Mr. Clean. "But we're busy, especially as the holidays approach, so it's important to have a versatile cleaner that will help effortlessly remove stubborn dirt throughout the home and beyond."

In addition to cleaning their homes, travelers also take the time to clean their most frequently used travel items, such as luggage (40%).

On average, respondents carried their luggage on a total of seven trips, and in the last week alone, up to 26% of respondents cleaned their luggage.

It is important to get these items back as many have felt "embarrassed" on vacation because some items they brought appeared old or worn, including clothing (20%), shoes (19%) and luggage (18%).

To avoid this, up to 55% of travelers said it was a "high priority" to check the status of these items well before travel.

Although respondents make sure to clean their luggage (40%) and travel bags (39%) before traveling, the results show that even more travelers will clean them upon their return.

They attach particular importance to their luggage (47%) and other travel essentials (21%) in order to prepare for their future trip well in advance.

And while 79% say it's important to keep their luggage clean when traveling, 27% say it's the "most difficult item to clean."

"Cleaning luggage can be a challenge, and we all know how disappointing it is to pick up a dirty, worn piece of luggage at the airport carousel," said Maria Striemer, senior manager of scientific communications for Global Home Care P&G. "To clean luggage, I recommend using an all-purpose cleaning device like Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. With this all-purpose cleaner you can remove stains, dirt, grease and grime from your luggage and return it to its original condition so you can embark on your next adventure with confidence and style.
