Gardeners ditch vinegar to kill stubborn patio weeds and use it to make a 65p kitchen item - Leicester Mercury

Garden enthusiasts and admirers of cleaning wonder Mrs Hinch have shared their favorite tips for removing weeds from gardens.

Sarah Brown posted a request in the Mrs Hinch Gardening Tips Facebook group: "These weeds keep growing on our round patio!" ! I keep tearing them off, but after a week they come back! She asked, "What is the best way to control them?" Should I use a strong herbicide? If so, do you have any recommendations since there are so many different ones?

The consultation received almost 30 responses from the community. The best recommendation for eliminating unwanted vegetation from your garden was a simple salt mixture.

Zoe Louise recommended a mixture of "salt and boiling water" and explained her method: "I add salt while the kettle is boiling. Then I put the kettle directly on top of it. I put a lot of salt in it." "

Irène Ducros expresses her opinion: "It's in nature! You can never stop weeds, but I control my weeds with salt... just salt," reports l'Express .

Vicky Jones agrees, revealing: "I put salt on one of my herbs and it's not coming back until next year. This year I will prepare the rest of these herbs [with] good salt from Lidl market."

Ulrika Rubin advises with one caveat: "As long as nothing else is supposed to grow there: salt and boiling water. I have that too."

Table salt, available at most local supermarkets or online, is the weapon of choice against pesky weeds. Stores such as Aldi, Asda and Morrisons are offering 750g of table salt for just 65p.

Weeds suffer their fate from salt as they dry out and disrupt their internal water balance.

Other suggestions from Ms. Hinch's enthusiasts were to use just boiling water, white vinegar and salt, or just white vinegar.

Maatje Lievense suggested: "Boiling water. Kills the roots. Repeat several times. »

Yvonne Allen recommended: "White vinegar and salt mixed together. »

Sian Jones suggested: "I go around with a bottle of white vinegar and hold it near [the plants], it's not harmful and lasts just over a week."
