Tips to eliminate the damage after the storm.

If you suffer damage after the storm, you should start cleaning immediately. But you have to be patient, play it safe and make sure the work is done correctly.

Beware of damaged buildings

  • Remember that typhoons can damage buildings and make them dangerous. If your house or other building has been damaged, make sure everything is OK before entering.
  • Immediately leave your home or other building when you hear strange or changing sounds. The strange sounds could mean that you are about to fall.

Prevent mold growth

  • Clean and dry your home quickly after the storm, if possible within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Ventilate your home by opening doors and windows. Use fans to dry damp areas. Install the fans so that the air is blown out of the doors or windows.
  • Throw away anything that can not be quickly cleaned or dried (mattresses, carpets, rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, cosmetics, stuffed animals, baby toys, pillows, foams, books, wallpaper and paper goods).
  • Remove and discard drywall and insulation contaminated by sewage or flooding.
  • Thoroughly clean all wet objects and surfaces with hot water and detergent. For example, you want to clean floors, concrete, moldings, wood and metal furniture, countertops, appliances, sinks and other fittings.
  • Repair leaks on roofs, walls or pipes as fast as possible.

Clean the molds with bleach and water.

  • Never use bleach in confined spaces. First open the windows and doors.
  • Wear personal protective equipment to protect your eyes, nose, mouth and skin. Wear safety goggles, N-95 respirator and protective gloves.
  • To make your cleaner, mix 1 cup of household bleach with 1 gallon of water.
  • Clean it with mold.

Disinfect toys

Remember that anything that has come into contact with the flood can carry germs. Make sure your toys are clean to ensure your children's safety:

  • Prepare a cleaning fluid by mixing 1 cup of chlorine in 5 gallons of water.
  • Wash toys thoroughly with your cleaner.
  • Let the toy air dry.
  • You may not be able to kill germs on some toys, eg. B. stuffed animals and baby toys. Throw away toys that you can not clean.

Wash with soap and water.

After cleaning, wash with soap and water.

When a warning to boil the water is in effect:

  • Use boiled water for 1 minute (allow to cool before washing). O

  • If you are using 5-6% non-scented, chlorine-free liquid, add a little less than 1/8 teaspoon (8 drops or about 0.5 milliliters) per 1 gallon of clean water. Stir well and let stand for 30 minutes before use. If the water is cloudy, add a little less than 1/4 teaspoon (16 drops or about 1 milliliter) per 1 gallon of water.
  • If you are using a fragrance-free liquid bleach at 8.25%, add a little less than 1/8 teaspoon (6 drops or about 0.5 milliliters) per 1 gallon of clean water. Stir well and let stand for 30 minutes before use. If the water is cloudy, add 12 drops (or about 1 milliliter) per 1 gallon of water.
  • If you have cuts or open wounds that have been exposed to the flood, wash them with soap and water and apply an antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.
  • See a doctor immediately if you are injured or become ill.
  • Wash all used clothing during cleaning with hot water and detergent. These garments should be washed separately from non-contaminated clothing and clothing.
