WFAA will take you to one of the busiest airports in the country, Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport. A WFAA crew also boarded an American Airlines plane to review the company's cleanup procedures.

"If you haven't been here for six or seven months, all of the changes we've made will surprise you," said Joe Taney, senior vice president of American Airlines at DFW Airport.

"It's safe to travel," he says.

Terminal D had a steady stream of travelers on Thursday morning around 7:30 a.m. There were queues but not much waiting time. Everyone wore a mask as needed.

When the passengers checked into the machines, the employees stood with a spray bottle and a rag in their hands. The machines were cleaned regularly in the morning.

A hand sanitizer dispenser was packed in front of the security checkpoint. There were several disinfection stations throughout the airport.

During the security check, a woman in a yellow vest cleaned all the used trays. Plexiglass divided the lines. The assessment was always based on the standard TSA method.

The toilets at DFW airport have also been improved. The monitors show the number of available seats and the walking distance to the nearest toilets. Inside there are lights above each booth that change from green to red when occupied.

On American Airlines' aircraft, the crews use hospital-grade cleaning products. The worst affected areas are sprayed and cleaned between each flight.

American Airlines also uses an electrostatic sprayer that sprays cleaner on every surface and row of the aircraft.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that most viruses and other germs don't spread easily on flights because air circulates and leaks on airplanes. However, social distancing is difficult on crowded flights, and sitting half a meter away from others for hours can increase your risk of developing COVID-19.
