DURHAM, North Carolina, USA, November 9, 2020 / EINPresswire.com / - The adoption of a kitten always seems to be a great idea. They are adorable, loving and are ideal as companions in every home. However, if your kitten is relieving herself at home, you may think that you made a mistake in adopting a four-legged friend. Veterinarian Paula Bullock recently stated that exercising the litter box doesn't have to be a difficult task, and some accidents around the house shouldn't be alarming.

Paula Bullock is a veterinarian with many years of experience in breeding and training dogs and cats. She recently spoke about her top litter training tips for her new cat.

"Whelping box training starts with buying the right materials," said Paula Bullock. "You will need cat litter, cat litter, and a few treats or toys as a treat."

Paula Bullock said the first thing to do is show your kitten the litter box as soon as you bring her home. Do not move the litter box once it has been placed in a specific location. Paula Bullock added that you can put your cat in the box after a meal and whenever it wakes up after a nap.

"Many people think treats are good for dogs, but cats respond well to them too," said Paula Bullock. "Reward your cat with a treat or toy every time he uses the litter box."

Paula Bullock added that you should never scold a kitten for accidents. This can lead to more anxiety and stress, which can actually lead to more accidents for the kitten. Cats generally don't associate punishment with something they've done. So scolding a kitten does not help build a litter.

"Cleaning the litter box is an essential part of the training process," said Paula Bullock. "A clean litter box is more welcoming to your kitten and makes it more likely to come in. Also, a clean litter box prevents unwanted odors from entering your home.

Paula Bullock suggested collecting the litter box every day and cleaning and disinfecting the box every time the litter box is changed. Cleaning the litter box doesn't have to be a big project because you can sanitize the litter box with mild soap and water and keep your home fresh. Paula Bullock added that you should not use commercially available disinfectants or bleach, which can be harmful to animals.

"Litter box training is a relatively straightforward process and your kitten should get used to it quickly," said Paula Bullock. "Keep the crate clean and reward your kitten for using the crate and you'll have a litter-trained cat in no time."
