Ashok Leyland is taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint by 60%

Ashok Leyland , the main flagship of the Hinduja Group, announced on Wednesday that the clean energy supply for nationwide operations has been increased to 60%. Now 75% of energy consumption in Tamil Nadu and 60% across India is sourced from solar roofs, terrestrial solar support and renewable wind power.

Hinduja Renewables, part of the Hinduja Group, focuses on building clean and sustainable energy factories in India and has built a solar power plant for Ashok Leyland with a capacity of 75 MWp in the Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu. This facility is one of the group's largest proprietary solar power plants in India and serves a single customer. The facility is expected to produce more than 120 million units of electricity per year.

The solar power plant was commissioned in nine months and is expected to produce more than 120 million units of electricity per year. The company has implemented intelligent maintenance through data analysis. This project created 500 direct jobs during the development phase and more than 20 permanent jobs to run the facility.

Today all factories in Ashok Leyland collect rainwater, have low flow water systems to minimize water use, and recycle all waste to prevent it from ending up in landfills. This has made Ashok Leyland a positive water company.

In line with Ashok Leyland's Water Positive initiative, the solar power plant uses robotic cleaning technology to regularly clean the solar panels. It is estimated that this innovative method saves 9 million liters of water per year.
