Oklahoma man returns home after carrying cross for Ukraine - Reuters

An Oklahoma man is back in Tulsa after a week of crossing Ukraine with a cross.

Keith Wheeler is known for traveling the world with a cross for the past 40 years. Wheeler has spent the past week touring cities in Ukraine, some of which he doesn't know by name.

"God gave me a place to sleep in Lviv, Chervonoarmiysk, Rivne, sorry I can't pronounce it very well, Lutsk and Kovel," Wheeler said.

He said his first night in the country was a life-changing experience as he sat in an air raid shelter in Lviv surrounded by family and strangers trying to make it through the night.

"There's a world map on the wall and everyone got up and left, and the Ukrainians who are being bombed by the Russians put their hands on Russia and started praying for Russia," Wheeler said.

He has photos from his trip that show the spirit of the Ukrainian people and their generosity.

"I was talking to someone and I looked back and people were tying water bottles, soda cans, they were tying cans together. Again, these people have nothing," Wheeler said.

He said he will continue to pray for the Ukrainian people.

"Every house housed refugees and every time the sirens went off or the bombs started falling, there was boom, boom, boom and fire and you wonder how many people died in that blast," Wheeler said.
