Ms Hinch - real name Sophie Hinchliffe, 32 - has been a long-time favorite among cleaning enthusiasts with nearly 4.5million followers on Instagram .

The star rose to fame with various home hacks a few years ago, and now her fans have even started cleaning up special pages on social media.

In one of those groups, Mrs. Hinch's Cleaning Tips and Tricks on Facebook, a member asked for advice: What are the remedies to keep spiders away?

And cleaning enthusiasts quickly took to the reviews to recommend peppermint oil.

One wrote: "I mop my floors then go over them with a mixture of water and peppermint oil."

Another said: "Peppermint oil and lemon juice with a drop of water in a spray bottle.

"Spray around vents in windows, walls, near front and back doors. Nobody comes in."

The smell is said to be so strong that the spiders flee.
