'Pretty Up Beechview' starts bank holiday weekend by cleaning up the streets - Reuters

PITTSBURGH, KDKA — A group of neighbors spent their vacation weekend cleaning up the street in Beechview.

The members of Pretty Up Beechview say they've been doing this for about 20 years.

They believe their efforts are making a difference.

"When we started, we had dumpsters all around the neighborhood that we worked with, partner organizations like Allegheny Cleanways, to clean up," Marya Pittaway said. "Over the years we've reached out to them and this year we've gotten to the point where we've had trouble finding landfills."

For those who want to join in, they leave every first Saturday of the month from April to October.
