Hello mothers! My name is Dris and I'm a 38 year old rock star determined to conquer modern day motherhood and be the ultimate superhero for my kids! When I'm not working, you can see me taking photos, writing, filming, connecting with other moms and empowering them in this amazing adventure we call life.
Welcome to our happy home where our family thrives on teamwork and togetherness in everything we do. We believe that working and playing together makes life more enjoyable, even when it comes to tidying up! As parents, we strive to establish good habits and teach our children important team building skills that will greatly benefit them as they prepare for back to school. That's why our family motto is "Teamwork makes dreams come true". It's a guiding principle we apply to all aspects of our lives, including our special Saturday clean-ups.
Even when our children were small, they knew how important cleanliness is. As they got older, we decided to reserve Saturday as clean-up day. Since my husband and I work weekdays, the weekends were the perfect time for our family to get together and make cleaning efficient and enjoyable. Leadership skills from our different professions helped us streamline the process and make it fun.
Here are some valuable tips we've learned over time that have made our cleaning routine a fun bonding experience:
Tip #1: Print out a fun to-do list for each family member
To ensure everyone's participation, we have created a to-do list appropriate to each family member's age and ability. We then print out these colorful and engaging to-do lists for our kids to use as guides. Our kids enjoy checking off completed tasks and we make sure to add fun pictures and encouraging messages to motivate them even more. Cleaning can be exciting when it becomes a challenge! One of our favorite cleaning products is Clorox® Sanitizing Wipes because they help us clean up thousands of messes in life. Even if our kids don't use them, they definitely help us clean up the mess they make! My kids know we use them for everything and seem to think we have an endless supply of them. hahaha I always hear them say, "Oops, I made a mess, time for a Clorox wipe!" »
Tip #2: Create family rewards
We believe in recognizing and celebrating our successes, no matter how small. To keep motivation high, we created a jar of family rewards suggested by each member. These rewards can come in the form of a trip to the park, an afternoon by the pool, or a nice evening at the movies. At first we randomly selected rewards, but quickly found that rewarding ourselves with a family pizza night and a movie right after cleaning up had become a delicious tradition. Having something nice to look forward to after our cleaning session keeps everyone in the family busy and motivated.
What I like about this reward system is that it mimics the reward systems my kids have in their schools. As we prepare for back-to-school, it shows them that good deeds and behavior come with fun rewards.
Tip #3: Have fun learning to clean
Our children love to help with the housework. Their enthusiasm is contagious when they bring our cleaning products together, like the trusted Clorox® disinfectant spray anddisinfectant wipes . It's heartwarming to see their curiosity sparked as they learn valuable life skills like time management, teamwork, problem solving and responsibility as part of our Clean Up Saturdays. Cleaning has become a wonderful adventure for them to grow and learn in, and the best part is that they transfer these skills into the real world, making the school day even more successful and fun! It's a win for the parents if you ask me!
Tip #4: Music + good vibes
Music is a universal joy that binds us together and we even enjoy it while cleaning. Each family member has the opportunity to share their favorite songs while playing a lively game of rock, paper, scissors. While there can sometimes be disappointment when one person's decision doesn't prevail, our children know the importance of taking turns. As soon as the music starts, we turn up the volume and energize each other as we enthusiastically throw ourselves into the cleaning chores.
Once the music is chosen we cheer each other on by showing off our best dance moves and once we're all hooked we start the clean up. We're a competitive little family and the dance moves just keep getting silly. Laughter gladdens this mother's heart!
In general, cleaning has become an integral part of our everyday family life. By approaching it as a team effort, adding music for extra fun, and using our favorite Clorox® products , we 've turned a seemingly mundane task into a rewarding experience. Our Saturday cleaning routine has brought us closer together as a family. This strengthened our ability to work as a team and enabled us to achieve the common goal of creating a clean and welcoming home.
