A professional cleaner shows how easy it is to save moldy, crusty towels from death

We all have that towel that we don't want to get rid of: it's old, a little crusty, and probably smells a little no matter how often you wash it. Would you believe there is a way to keep this towel out of the landfill and possibly give it a new life?

In a viral Instagram post, Nancy Birtwhistle (@nancy.birtwhistle) shows us how to restore towels to their fluffy shape.

The premiere

Birtwhistle is a cleaning expert and has a seemingly endless supply of home care tips and advice - think Martha Stewart's British appeal.

In a recent Instagram video, Birtwhistle showed viewers a clever trick that can revive crispy towels and make them fluffy when air-drying.

The first step is to use baking soda to remove the musty smell from a dirty towel. Birtwhistle tells viewers: "Soak them warm in baking soda, this will neutralize the unpleasant smell." »

Baking soda is less well known in the US but can be purchased online or in some stores. Baking soda should not be confused with baking soda, another common cleaning product: these two useful elements have different chemical compositions and are not interchangeable.

The cleaning expert then washes the treated towel and the final part of the trick comes into play during drying.

Before we hang the towel up to dry, Birtwhistle tells us to shake the stack of towels vigorously and says, "This will get you out of breath."

By shaking the towel in this way, you act like a dryer and cause the towel fibers to lift, creating a soft, fluffy towel when dry.

Not only does skipping the dryer reduce energy costs, but it also extends the life of your towels and clothes. Making the most of your belongings will save you money and reduce waste in the long run.

These things not only save your wallet, but also have benefits for the environment. Reducing electricity consumption and extending the life of your objects are two simple changes we can make every day to help the planet. Small changes really do lead to big results!
