The Truth About Real Estate: December Home Maintenance Tips | Tracy Press

Holy moly, it's December! How did it happen? If you were out today, it was unusually warm for a December day. However, if you waited a few more hours until it got dark, i.e. before 5 p.m., fog would form and it would be cold. This reminded her once again that it is actually December. Still, it's time to remember some home maintenance things to pay attention to this December.

Through some research, I found some great maintenance tips, courtesy of www.safewise.com . Maybe, like me, you haven't even given these suggestions much thought.

Since it's the holiday season and you'll be using your oven a little more often, it's important to make sure it's clean. It would be very important to check if you have leftover Thanksgiving turkey juice before preparing your next holiday meal. The truth is that I really treasured the memory. While I was preheating my oven, I noticed a strange burning smell and some smoke in my kitchen. Didn't you know? There were blobs of food on the bottom of the oven, leftovers from my Thanksgiving meal.

Another joy of kitchen maintenance is sharpening knives. My husband Tom always advises me not to use dull knives. Believe it or not, dull knives are more likely to cause bad cuts than sharp knives.

Did you know that you not only prepare your car but also your house for winter? When it comes to pipes, especially those located outside of your home, one thing to keep in mind during colder weather is that in the event of frost, you will need to insulate the outside pipes. This ensures protection against pipe bursts. If you're worried about very cold nights, you can prevent your pipes from bursting by running the faucet a little.

You should also walk around your home, making sure to seal any small openings that could allow furry guests to escape the cold into your warm home. Just take a look at TikTok and watch some videos of unwanted guests entering your home. It's fun to laugh when you're not at home. It's not as fun when it's at your house.

Another thing you might not think about in winter is the air you breathe. You may think that the only time you might experience breathing problems and/or allergies is in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom. Not changing your furnace's air filter can also cause shortness of breath. It is recommended to change the boiler filter every 3 months. This helps fresh air from the radiator flow through the filter until it reaches your home.

The points listed above are just a brief overview of the home safety and maintenance aspects you should be aware of. As always, remember to maintain your home regularly and often. This will also help avoid higher maintenance costs in the future. I wish you always good health and a big hug.
