Tips for cleaning after an accident

Q: I would take my dog to the other night when I found out that she had peed on our carpet only. What is the best way to clean it?

A: The good news is there are some excellent products and lifting techniques to odor and stains. When an accident is discovered immediately, so that wipes (we still have a lot of dirty old hand) and clean as much urine as possible. Push really hard to absorb everything and make sure that the urine has no chance in the landfill. Then mix the towels in the laundry basket and saturate the area with an enzyme cleaner. Enzymes break down the waste so that it does not neutralize stains and odors rather than cover.

Apply the cleaning solution to a larger area than the actual urine stain humidity to ensure that the whole area. Your dog will be able to smell the urine remaining, even if you can not. Place a clean cloth over the area and weight down with a stack of thick books or other heavy objects. The pressure will help to remove the moisture from the carpet. Check the area within 24 hours. It should be dry by then, and you can remove the books and towel. The area should be free from all stain and odor.

Avoid detergents ammonia. Ammonia is a byproduct of the decomposition of urine, and the smell will attract the attention of the dog to the area and to encourage them to pee again.
