Tips for Prosthetic Care | Care of partial or full dentures

A removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue is called dentures. There are two types of prostheses: full dentures and partial dentures. A complete prosthesis is used when all the teeth of a person are missing. In contrast, partial dentures are used when natural teeth are still present.

Tips for prosthetic restoration

Your prosthetics will only work better and last longer if you take care of them. Removable full or partial dentures require proper care to keep them clean and stain free. The proper care of the prostheses is crucial for the health of your prosthesis and your mouth. These are the tips to keep your prosthesis in perfect condition.

Always remove and rinse dentures after eating

Run the water over your prosthesis to remove loose food particles and other loose particles. It is best to place a towel on the countertop or in the sink, or pour water into the sink so that the dentures will not break if dropped.

Handle your dentures very carefully

When cleaning your dentures, be careful not to damage or bend the plastic or staples.

Always remember to clean your mouth after removing your teeth.

Use a toothbrush with soft bristles for natural teeth to clean your tongue, the inside of your cheeks, and the palate of your mouth.

Brush your prosthesis at least once a day

Carefully remove and clean your prosthesis daily. Dip and brush with a soft brush or denture cleaner (not harsh) to remove food debris, plaque and more. When using denture adhesives, be sure to clean the grooves that fit your gums to remove the remaining sticky particles. Never use denture cleanser in the mouth.

Soak the dentures at night

Dentures must remain moist to maintain its shape. Place the prostheses overnight in a soft solution of dentures or in water. Ask your dentist how to properly store your dentures overnight.

Always remember to rinse your denture.

Always remember to rinse your denture before putting it back in your mouth, especially if you are wearing a denture solution. These solutions contain harmful chemicals that can cause pain, vomiting, or burning if swallowed.

Contact your dentist if you have a loss of shape.

See you soon at the dentist, when the prosthesis dissolves. Inappropriate dentures can cause irritation, wounds and infections.
