BBB: Beware of scams by hiring others to clean up storm damage.

(WXMI) - Severe storms struck western Michigan overnight. With another storm round for Wednesday evening, the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers of cleaning fraud.

BBB says it's important to research the company before making a decision and to make sure they have working contact information like a local address and phone number.

Also make sure that the contractor has a valid license to perform the work.

While most arboriculture companies don't need a state license, roofers and other repair companies likely need a state license.

Another tip is to poke around.

It is best to get several offers and recommendations before signing a contract and never pay the full amount in advance.

You can search for contractors on the BBB website , read about how to avoid storm chasers, and report any scams you find.
