The Easiest Way to Clean Your TV Screen Without Damaging It - Lifehacker US

Televisions are a fairly common household item and often represent a significant investment. Should we go for an OLED? A QLED? 8K or 4K ? The decisions you need to make are difficult, but whichever TV you end up with, they all have similar maintenance requirements.

TVs don't require a lot of maintenance, but from time to time you may want to clean them up a little. At this point, getting it right is important, which is why we reached out to a few TV experts for advice.

What's the best way to clean a TV screen?

Despite their often bulky size, televisions are sensitive instruments. Most of the time they stay intact year round, but if you've recently moved or misplaced your TV, you can occasionally find stains or fingerprints that need to be removed.

Aaron McNamara, Samsung Australia product manager, told Lifehacker at Zoom that the essential part of cleaning a television isa microfiber cloth .

Since TV screens are made of glass, you might be tempted to spray Windex or glass cleaner on them, but that's a big no.

"Sometimes there are coatings and various reflective materials on the screen and chemicals can damage it. If you really need it, a very light jet of water should be enough to remove stubborn stains from the screen, "says McNamara.

Samsung recommends using a dry cloth whenever possible in its online cleaning instructions . However, if you have stains and stains that are more difficult to remove, you can spray a small amount of screen cleaning solution on your cloth (not directly on the screen) and proceed from there.

Also, remember to unplug your TV before cleaning and don't press too hard while cleaning as this can damage the screen.

As for the rest of your TV, the only important thing to be aware of is dust.

"You don't have much to do unless you live in a particularly dusty area. In that case, you might want to dust your TV's air vents from time to time," said McNamara.

If you need to fix something more important on your TV, such as scratches or cracks, it is best to contact your TV provider directly for further instructions or repairs.

Now go and enjoy your immaculately clean screens!
