We asked veteran Australian organizers for their best time-saving cooking tips ...

1. Peel the herbs with a grater.

When inviting people out for a nice meal, you are likely using herbs on your plate or as a nice side dish. Either way, weeding your stalked stems takes time that everyone would love to make up for. To speed up the process, follow From Great Beginning's wonderful advice with a grater. Take a few pieces of the herb of your choice, place the stalks directly in the hole of a box grater, and then pull the stems inward vigorously. As if by magic, the leaves quickly detach from the stems and stay on the outside of the grater.

2. Peel the garlic

Garlic is the key to taste and enjoyment in most cases, but it's a nightmare to peel off (especially if it gets under your nails and you smell like garlic for days). This other cooking hack, also from From Great Beginnings, is great for speed and cleanliness. Take your nails, crush them a little with a small Tupperware container, then place them in and shake them. Garlic skins can be peeled off immediately! A perfect messy kitchen prep hack that will help most hosts start a yummy storm.
