When was the last time you cleaned your mattress? You sleep with dust mites (and their droppings)

This annual global study found that nearly seven out of ten Singaporeans don't vacuum their mattresses (we'll see if vacuuming helps later), even though these places are breeding grounds for dust mites. It's true. Every night you meet millions of these guys on a single mattress. And do they love you?

-You can eat a buffet consisting of your dead skin, body oil, sweat and dust, said Associate Professor Chew Fook Tim of the Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science at the National University of Singapore.

They may look like your personal cleaning kit, but the effect is far from it. Dust mites and their feces, along with mold growing on the accumulated mix of dust, dead skin, body fat and sweat, are not good news for those who react to this trifecta of allergies, said Assoc Prof. Chew.

OH SHIT…

Yes, dust mite feces, not just the dust mites themselves, are a source of allergens or triggers for a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and in severe cases, asthma attacks or diarrhea. A fact few Singaporeans know, according to a Dyson survey: Only 30% know that dust mite droppings can cause allergies.
