Tips for the sustainable disposal of your holiday waste

SAN ANTONIO - Now that the Christmas wrapping is done, we have a lot of wrapping paper and boxes.

The waste management department of San Antonio has some tips to make the cleaning a little more sustainable.

"Almost everyone gets where they order online," said Marcus Lee of the city of San Antonio. "We want the box. It's recyclable. Keep it for us, but we ask you to shred it."

"What we don't want is to pack peanuts, bubble wrap, bubble wrap, and polystyrene," said Lee. "It's not recyclable, it's a waste, so throw it away."

Gift packaging is also not included in the recycling program.

"We just want plain paper," said Lee.

They ask you to reuse it.

"When it comes to your tree, we have a great program that allows us to cut Christmas trees for free," said Lee.

The approximately 350,000 customers in San Antonio have a brown trash can, a blue recycling trolley and a green trolley for organic materials.

Lee has a tip to keep this green car clean.

"Take shredded paper and put it in the floor," said Lee.

And put the leftovers in the brown paper bag.

"Corn husk, most of the recipes contain celery, carrots, they all have an onion in their filling and they all make a great green salad," Lee said. "Apple peel, fruit peel and banana pudding".

Put more confetti on it, roll up the bag and put it in the basket with green organic products.
