Company profile / New Year's goal? Cleaning and organizing the house - Monroe Evening News

Marie Civiello of Frenchtown Township suggests starting the new year with a clean and tidy home.

The owner of Marnell's Cleaning Service said establishing a daily cleaning routine of 15 to 30 minutes a day helps keep a home clean and tidy.

"Everyone makes New Year's resolutions: 'I have to have this

organized so I can tidy up that space and use it for something else. Everyone has that space or drawer to put things in until they can file them or check them out," Civello said. "I once decorated a bedroom for a friend who had so many hats that you couldn't see what the furniture looked like. She wanted everything in the closet to be organized. It took a whole day, but I made it. Then she found a bed there.

The 57-year-old started her cleaning company in 2018 after a long career in gastronomy.

"I really wanted to get out of the restaurant business. I heard rumors that good housewives were hard to find. So I decided that's what I would do," he said. "In the hospitality industry you really learn how to keep things clean and hygienic. In addition, my grandmothers and my mother, with my education, were excellent housewives. Every Friday was a cleaning day and we were trained to help.

Another benefit of starting your own business was working with people.

"I loved the people that are part of the restaurant industry. My bosses told me I could talk to anyone. I really could," he said. "I started helping my grandmother (Nellie) in her clothing store: Marnell's Millinery in Ohio. I learned a lot from her about how to treat people and make them happy, satisfied and loyal customers. Marnell has an excellent reputation in our town. This is where I found my company name.

One of the most common questions Civiello asks new customers is about pets.

"Many people have pets and are concerned about their safety. We love pets and look forward to seeing our customers' pets," he said. "But some pets don't like strangers or may be stressed, so we recommend you keep them safe and out of the way on cleaning day. Otherwise, feel free to let them roam the house as they would." usually.

Most homes and offices clean an average of two hours depending on size, number of bathrooms, kitchen finish and type of flooring.

Many Civialo customers hire cleaning services because they are retired or simply older and having cleaning issues.

"Then there are the families where everything is constantly hectic and who need help," he says. "We also offer cleaning services after the completion of new construction projects in a home or office. New builds can be the hardest to clean due to drywall and sawdust. It sneaks up everywhere and you really have to make sure all surfaces are clean. Walls, carpentry and floors. We do the little things that make a big impact.

Civiello and her staff use eco-friendly cleaning products like Dawn and Lysol, and with a little help from social media and a Facebook group, Laundry Love and Cleaning Science, the team keeps up to date with trends and tips.

"When it comes to getting organized, most people are so far behind that they don't know where to start. Don't hesitate! The more you stack, the more impossible the task can seem. Once you start fixing things, you have to keep it that way or you're back to square one." "Commit to filling a garbage bag each day with things that you can donate, shred, or throw away. This simple task facilitates commitment and performance. »
